    1990 Viento ECU Question...

The ECU in our beloved viento has issues, as it doesn't read what the idle sensor is doing. Mitsi in Henderson had a look at it ages ago and said the sensor itself is fine, as is the wiring, and they laid the blame with the ECU itself.

My question is, will the ECU out of a manual viento be a suitable replacement? I know it has a separate trans computer but need to know if the ECU is the same between them or not.

    Cheers

Might work, can't hurt to try. And you should open up your current ECU case and smell it. If it has a distinctive electronics smell to it, it's probably leaking condensators (the around three blue -or black- round cilinders) and maybe worse (the leaking contents might have hurt other components too). A local TV repair shop should be able to clean it up and replace the condensators by new ones. I've done it for my 6Gens several times (I owned 3) and for several club members and all but one were saved this way. Won't cost you more than 40/50 dollars.
