    Engine KO'd

All thought I would share my woes with everybody. Friday night just set off from lights doing about 10mph steering went heavy and no power like the car had stalled. Pulled over, mechanic came . Verdict "TERMINAL". Great start to the weekend. Power steering belt had come off , wrapped around pulley and went through cam belt cover and into cam belt. Teeth ripped off cambelt (only fitted in dec last year), all 24 valves bent. Piccies attached of what state the car is in ie very full boot of engine bits, not much under the bonnet plus piccie of the cambelt. Moral of the don't try and take the heads off , just get a new engine. Anyway light at the end of the tunnel, new engine due Friday as this is a much cheaper option. Will keep you posted what happens over the weekend.

Cambelt going to be changed whilst engine is on the floor. Might consider the water pump tho.

well worth it to do the water pump as you have peace of mind that it is good , if it fails then it will take out the camblet which is the last thing you want

Good luck with sorting this - at least you seem to have a handle on the situation.

Was the power steering belt changed at the same time as the timing belt?

Do you know why it broke then? That worries me somewhat.

Have had a few issues with the belt riding up the pulley and coming off ( the other way away from cam belt). Put a new tensioner on a month ago and the issue went away. Not sure how it got to where it did this time other than the belt somehow came off the other way , got wrapped around and knackered everything. I have been doing some research on the site and have also ordered a new crank pulley and water pump. On the camskill site on the main crank pulley symptoms , it states "The first signs are it throwing belts off and shredding them and this can also wreak havoc on the sensor. "

    Thumbs up

Engine update. Got engine out over weekend as per photos, not that much in the engine bay as you can see. Got new engine fitted sunday with new water pump, new cam belt, new crank pulley and tensioner, new power steering belt and new alternator belt. I'm not taking any chances this time. Finished everything off Monday and then gits , cobra alarm had a thrombo and wouldn't work so couldn't turn immoboliser off. Anyway after having to walk to work Tuesday , managed to get somebody to re sync key fob with car and hey presto started first time. After a few test runs and one of my hard pipes coming off, car was finished at 9.00pm.Now all thats left is to sell the bits I have left.
    Now a happy bunny again'

Over the moon Steve. So glad it started first time, but wouldn't want to do it again.
