Ok where do I start and why did I not see this thread until now?
6A12 or 6A13 will not bolt up to any Mitsubishi RWD gearbox period. 6A12 and 6A13 do share the same bellhousing bolt pattern - the engine may have been rotated 180deg but due to the symmetrical nature of the V6 many things remained unchanged between the 6A12 and 6A13 blocks.
I am unsure what gearbox that L200 was using, I too would like to know - perhaps it was the original box but with an adapter plate. The other thing worth mentioning is neither the 6A12 or the 6A13 have provisions on the engine block to mount RWD mounts to like a conventional RWD engine or the pre Evo4 4G63s and all 6G7x series engines.
I chose the 6G72 over the 6A12/3 because the 6G72 was factory mounted north/south RWD orientation in the Pajero, L200, Triton and Challenger - so there's a factory set of mounts out there, as is there a water pump + thermostat housing + water piping routing setup. Have a look at the 6A12/6A13 thermostat housing setup hanging off the back of the heads above the gearbox - where is that going to fit when the engine is turned 90deg in RWD layout? You would have to relocate the thermostat housing and have complicated custom water pipes - at least with the 6G7x series there's a factory solution.
One of the other main reasons is that while the 6A12 and 6A13 all have four bolt mains bearings and the block is strengthened in many aspects over the 6G7x, the rods are dangerously thin and there isn't as much of a scope for power as the 6G72. The early pre 93 GTO/3000GT 6G72 twin turbo engines are two bolt mains but from 93 onwards they went to four bolt mains along with many changes to the crankshaft and oiling system which solved many of the known issues with the 6G72 engine. The factory rods on the 6G72 are very strong just like the early 4G63s, and are good for an easy 500hp.
I am using a Diamante 30M MIVEC engine as the basis for my conversion (into a 4th gen RWD Eterna GSR coupe, not a Starion taylor) as the heads are far better and flow more than the GTO engines. The downside is the MIVEC block uses a 2 bolt mains setup, but if I really wanted to fix that I could find a later model 6G72 Pajero/Challenger block which is 4 bolt mains and swap all the MIVEC stuff onto it.
As for gearbox choice for the 6G72, well it's about the same for the 6A12/6A13 however there is one avenue which I will be exploring. The 6G7x series Pajero automatics are coupled to the same Aisan A340 based transmission which is frequently used in Toyotas, including 1UZ-FE V8 engines. Using a Pajero auto bellhousing, you can attach it to either a Toyota W58 or R154 5speed manual gearbox using a common adapter plate which the 1UZ-FE guys use when converting their Soarers into 5speed manual. There's a few changes which will need to be made such as the length of the adapter plate to ensure the gearbox input shaft remains in spot it should be, and you will probably have to use the heavy Pajero flywheel but I am investigating if I can use the GTO flywheel with the automatic Pajero starter motor, and if that's possible then the flywheel needs to be modified to accept the gearbox spigot bearing.

I thought the later model 6A12 in the FTO and 8G's had the same bolt pattern as a 6a13 in an 8G

Well i have two r31s at the moment. one jap hr31 sedan which was redtop rb20de auto which i made manual and if all my parts arrive tomorrow i'm droping in the r33 rb25det. I also have a jap hr31 coupe which was a redtop rb20de auto not to sure what i'll do with it yet. the de motors came with those rocker covers as well so i have a few sets at home
help me please my vr4 has a slight grinding noise and takes its time in 3rd gear dus anyone knaw y this is happening
