    bleeding brakes

Just about to change my brake fluid. I have a hand operated vacuum pump so gonna try that out.

Gonna start offside rear then nearside rear then nearside front and finally offside front.

Got Brembos on the front and they have 2 bleed nipples so I guess it is outer nipple first and inner nipple second ?

yes, but it does not matter which rear side you start with as long as you do the oposite front side after that.,

thats why you have the engine running so that all abs valves are open , and it should not make a difference as Dave says as long as you do diagnals

OK bumping this old thread as I have a question.

So fitting stainless steel flexis tomorrow.

From this thread I have the bleeding order (PFL standard calipers)
    NSR, OSF, OSR, NSF

Do I have to have the engine running then when I do the bleeding?? As it was only briefly mentioned in a post here.

I believe that it is a good idea - as John said it keeps the ABS valves open so it should result in no problems!

So are the valve open just when the engine is running or do you need to activate the brake pedal to open them, I thought the valve open when the ABS is needed to release the pressure to that wheel and stopping it from locking. However must admit I have no real knowledge of how ABS works other than the basic logical knowledge.

Just wondering if having the engine running and using an easy bleed kit is going to do everything for me.

Does anyone know if there is a bleed nipple of the ABD valve block?

Must admit I love my Landy for this. Only electrical brain on the thing is the engine ECU and that's been around for that long everyone knows how that works lol

Just an update. Fitted new hoses whilst fitting new pads and discs.

With regards to bleeding the brakes after having all 4 flexi hoses off as the car was up on axle stands I did not feel it would be a good idea to start the engine so me and my mate bleed the brake with the engine off the good old fashoned way.

No problems, bleed fine I followed the directions detailed in this thread as to what corner to start on and where to end up.

You dont need engime running just ign on so the abs pump runs if needed but 9 out of 10 times you dont need it another good idea is a vac pump bleeder it works by apllying a vacum to the line good for changing fulid

    Hi all,
Just another question on this i want to change my front flexi hoses but only have a one man bleeder ,

want to change fluid never been done as far as i know, so get to the point when ready to bleed IE:flexis changed and jacked up at the rearer but to start car and run while jack up not good,so shall i bleed some then put ignition on pump a bit more then should be done or just get a vac pump and suck it out.

The way i did it on my own:
    - open and fill the reservoir
    - stick a clear tube on the nipple, let it drain in a bottle
    - open the nipple
    - wait and let the gravity do it’s work
    - till there are no bubbles anymore in the tube
    - close the nipple
    - close the reservoir
    I didn’t use a vacuum pump
I didn’t use my ignition key
-> no troubles with ABS or whatever.
