    96 VR_4 auto boost increase

Hi am looking at an 96 auto VR_4, i'm lead to believe that the early auto's are 260bhp but the manuals are 280bhp with the same motor, then in '98 they upped th auto power output to 280 in line with the manual. Is this true and what is the easiest/cheapest/best way of upping the power to 280, I read somewhere that the difference was achieved by a difference in 0.1 bar boost pressure. Could I fit a boost tap and gauge and up the boost a little or will this cause problems with the MAF and ECU. Is a boost controller a better idea, if so which one and how much? cheers Gaz

This has been answered on these forums literally 5000 times.

But since I'm feeling charitable, either type of boost controller will do the job fine

Provided your car is running healthy, any type of boost controller (manual/mechanical or electronic) would give you more boost. PFL VR4s with even a manual boost controller have been known to reach the high 280s. With added power modification that can quite comfortably reach 300.
