as to brimming it , it now has 10 litres in the tank so why would this help guys?[/QUOTE]

not quite sure TBH.....but it worked for me.

maby the weight of a full tank of fuel helps with the fuel pressure down the lines, really don't know to be honest.

hope you get it sorted soon bud

It sounds like the mix is going wrong when you blip the throttle. If that is the case then either the fuel is not being delivered or is being thrown in too quickly. As the car is not under load too little fuel seems most likely. If those guesses are right then either your maf has stopped working or your pump isn't supplying enough fuel. I'd be wiggling the mac connector but I'd be suspicious of the fuel pump as suggested above.

When it ran dry, is there not a chance there could've been some crap sucked down the lines & blocked the fuel filter? That could potentially let it idle but wouldn't let enough through to actually rev it.

Something blocked, perhaps? The fuel filter has got to be worth doing anyway, if not done previously.

I ran out of fuel in the VR-4 the other week. I got a lift home and collected my petrol can, which had about 2.5L of 95 in it (for the lawnmower) that has only been knocking around for about 2 years!

Anyway, poured that in, and it fired up no problem. Got me home again, and then back up the bypass to put some 99 in. And I still have a weak fuel pump!

Not saying it's NOT your fuel pump, but given my recent experience, I'm leaning towards the fuel filter blockage.

Having thought about it, I'm with Glenn. Fill the tank and then try again. If that does not work then I would change the fuel filter next (note: Eurospec recommend changing the fuel filter on any turbocharged car annually so if it's not been done then it's worth doing anyway).

The longer you run it with a small amount of fuel in it, the more chance you have of dragging crap into the system.. I have ran out of petrol on umpteen occasions... It never needed bleeding, and never had a an air block. Thought as the system is a return type that they are self bleeding !

thanks guys .still doing nothing have ordered a new fuel pump anyways and will order a new filter .

would fill the tank but am 5 miles for a petrol station with only a 5l can could take a while.

any fancy an essex meet at mine , free bacon sarnies in exchange for your MAF.

oh i have to blame the wife as thats the rules of being a man and it is normally her fault aswell , and yes am going to buy a shed to get us out of trouble and for her to use

am thinking of taking it off the road for a bit if i can resolve this soon and thinking of a lot of work to complete.

I'm confused ? Your gonna put a New Fuel pump and filter in, with minimal fuel in your tank and then try and start your car ?

If you have 2 cans in the tank already, then 2 more should be suffice to get you to the Petrol Station. And either way, you need to get plenty of fuel in before you start it with new pump and filter ....

will fill it up before i get the pump and filter in , pump needs doing anyway and dont know when the filter last got changed so hopefully these 3 things will solve it. will fill up a couple of cans a day in passing when going to work and back. am in no rush now so got 2 weeks to get it sorted .
