Lights on the windscreen water jets.

    I know, I know there so 2006/7.

I've had a set of windscreen washer jets with lights on the front sitting around for a few years now & never fitted them to any of my old cars but with changing the bonnet today I decided to fit them cause the standard ones dont fit to well.

I'm not really fussed whether they light up or not but what is the legality with these.

Do they need to be wired up to a separate switch & only be lit up for show? (In that case I wont bother) or can you wire them in to the lights to come on when you switch the lights on?
The mighty Leedsnum has gone but the Airtrek mods will soon fill this space

Not my cup of tea. The only lights on the car should be the ones that come with the car. Don't agree with those cheap tacky led strip lights that every Thomas, Richard and Harold seems to have. These cars are uber rare as they are, keep them that way by not making them 'follow the crowd'.

I had some blue one's on my old cavalier, got pulled early one morning cause the police didn't like them. Didn't get done, just a warning that they are not legal and to take them off. Don't see so many of them now.

You can wire it either way, just need to find the wire for the light switch like you would if wiring a gauge up (to change colour when lights are on).
In NZ these are illegal to have on the car.

I had these fitted to my Colt in a past life...

They were in white and actually looked pretty good compared with the usual chavy blue ones.

Never had any problems with the police about them. I don't think there are any legal issues as long as they are white, you can show any colour from the front except red and if you show blue the police will say that you are impersonating an emergency vehicle.

Eventually they died though, they don't seem to last more than a few months. Repaired them the first time but eventually they just fell apart completely and the plastic snapped so I reverted to the stock ones.
