    6A12 FTO ECU swap

    Hi !!

    I'm from Brazil and I have a 7G Galant GS 2.0 V6 24v DOHC - the non mivec 6A12.

My Galant has 150hp and the 1997> FTO GR/GX has the same engine as my Galant but with 180hp.

I would like to know if the ECU makes all that diference or is there something else.

Would a FTO GR/GX ECU fit my 7G Galant ?

    Thank you

    There are both models...

Non MIVEC = FTO GR and FTO GX (170hp or 180hp depending on the year)
MIVEC = FTO GPX and FTO GPvR (197hp)

from what i know.. your engine is the same as the FTO with 170-177hp. the only other 2 differant spec 6a12 are: the mivec (197hp) and the turbo (237hp).

if you have had your car on a dyno you must take into account the car is old and the factory ratings are measured at the flywheel.

either way, best fix will be getting a 6A12 turbo installed, or getting a vr4/GT Sport (E74A/E84A). you can waste alot of money on a N/A car and go backwards easily.

I've never had my car on a dyno, but at the owners manual its write that my car has 150hp. So that's why I think the ECU makes all the diference.

Unfortunatelly here in Brazil we don't have the 6A12 turbo, the Galant VR4/Sport GT, or even the FTO. Actually the N/A 6A12 is a very rare engine in my country.

I think I'll buy the FTO ECU and give it a try.

ILLEGAL, is this your car? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-_iN...layer_embedded

Yes, there is this 180ps FTO: http://www.goo-net.com/catalog/MITSU...241/index.html

The 7G's in Japan were available with the 170ps engine, as well as a 145ps engine http://www.goo-net.com/catalog/MITSU...645/index.html

It looks like the 145ps engine is SOHC and 170/180ps is DOHC in Japan, I'm not sure what the difference is in your DOHC car. I would say you might be best to just buy an FTO non mivec ecu and see what happens.
If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason

i did see there was a sohc but he said he had the dohc? going on that info alone he has the same as the FTO only his wont have mivec or turbo friendly compression.. unless.... you get the heads aswell, the heads MIGHT work but the original cam covers will need to be kept so you can acess the oil filler. and rewire or at least add more wiring into the ecu loom for mivec.. will the 27hp be justified?? ..just get the VR4 engine or the VR4. or place a HKS sticker on each front tyre. this will give 15hp per sticker. so 2x HKS sticker = 30hp. FML!

Well ILLEGAL, I would love to buy a Galant VR4, but we don't have this model here in Brazil... actually my N/A 7G Galant is a very rare car, I think there's no more than 100 cars like mine here in Brazil.

I've never had my car into a dyno, but it's write at the owners manual that my car has the 6A12 DOHC engine with 150hp.

Anyway, right now my car is at the garage to change spark plugs & wires, fuel filter, air filter, and some other bits... Probably it will be ready at the weekend and I wanna put it in a dyno to see the results. If it really has only 150hp I'll buy the FTO ECU and give it a try.

PS: I don't know if it matters, but my Galant is the hatchback version.

bugger for you mate.. would be awsome for you to get a VR4. hmm i wonder what you importing laws are and the tax's involved? perhaps just the motor?

i would be suprised if you do get 150hp ATW. but interested to find out..

do you have the 4g63T or 4g64 in brazil?? this could be the only option?

Your car is known as the Mitsubishi Galant GTi, it has a 2 Liter V6 24Valve DOHC Engine, and yes it is rated @150Hp.
Very smooth engine, High Rev Limit.

If anyone has a FTO non Mivec ECU i'm willing to give it a try, still have such a car in my Collection.
