Thumbs up New VR4 owner in Dublin

    Hello all,

New joiner here, based in North County Dublin. Bought a 2001 Ralliart VR4 auto recently off a site member (ajsimp) who sent me in this direction. Car was previously owned by another member (gee118 I believe) so it has some good club vr4 heritage! My first jap car since driving a corolla many years ago so I'm still getting used it. I've have had large engined N/A BMWs for the last few years so this 2.5 twin turbo is a different kettle of fish, but has a ferocious turn of pace!

Apart from being in serious need of a valet/detail, the car is in great nick thanks to the previous owner who was a mechanic so it's been serviced like clockwork. The leather in the car is mint apart from the drivers seat that has a little bit of wear on the bolster. Is there any way I can find out the factory spec of the car (e.g. leather colour code, paint colour code etc) so I can source touch up kits?

It's not due a service right now but I'll need to have a search around to find decent Mitsu indys in Dublin as its due its car test soon so I may as well stock up on some Amsoil....or if anyone has any recommendations for performance oil or decent indys please let me know.

Photos to follow once the rain stops and it gets a once over...

    Cheers
    Skippy

Cheers for the welcome gents. I was out having more fun in it today.

The rain hasn't stopped since I bought the motor so I haven't even been able to get the hoover out. So I've decided to send it off for a pro detail in a couple of days. Not cheap, but I will hopefully have a nice clean car later in the week and some quality photos to stick up here. I am not expecting miracles but it should hopefully be a nice transformation, fingers crossed

Your paint code is on the VIN plate on the bulkhead. Otherwise, PM me your chassis number and I can check it out on ASA to see what factory spec is/was!

@elnevio, thanks for the welcome. I was away for a bit so I haven't been able to see the car in the daylight in a week or so, I was searching around the with a torch earlier tonight in the pitch dark and I found it on the bulkhead after 5 minutes....DOH. It would really would have helped if I read the user manual (i have now)!!! :

@amsoil, cheers for the welcome. I see in the service manual on the car it has been treated to Amsoil (0w30 i think) for at least the last 4 services and it's still running sweet so I guess it's the way to go.

I joined the members area and I see around 100 threads on there as to what is the best oil to use and it often says Amsoil 0w30 or Castrol Edge sport 5w30. However in the Ralliart VR4 supplementary user manual I have it says "do not use 5w30 in turbo charged engine, only use 10w30" I better just take the good advise of the Club VR4 massive and ignore the manual.

I've got her back from the detailer's now and it's nice and clean so I need to post up some photos in the photo section.....

Back when the manual was printed it was harder to make good quality 0w30 and 5w30 oils that would last, hence the 10w30 recommendation. Now it isn't a problem.
If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason

    Just saw this now!
I always wondered where my beloved car went.
All the best fluids ever went into her.
I sold it to Andrew Simpson (AJSIM) for 5 grand.
What did you get it for?

I originally went over to England to get it. It's a genuine Ralliart import. One of 212 or so if memory serves me correctly.

Yep, I got it from Andy, he wasnt getting much use of it so he sold it on to me, got a pretty good deal. He texted me recently to say he misses it already.

I saw your name in there on the service book too, using amsoil's best.

She's been taken care of well. Take a look at a few pics here...
