Unhappy Auto to Manual Gearbox conversion

    Hi,

I have been searching through the forums but can not get a definitive list of all the work and components required to convert an auto to a manual gearbox.

I am in the market again for a vr4, I have been searching for ages now for a manual but only came accross one and Jason beat me to it... LOL

Should have kept my previous VR4 and converted it.

Anyway does anyone have a guide and a list of exact components required?

    Many thanks

    Hi mate, this isn't for you, this is for everyone else so they know what I've advised in PM;

    • Labour - It's at least a 12 hour job, so factor in about £500 for labour
    • Optionally, Nick Mann sells a Evo clutch adapter kit for about 50 quid so you can fit a nicer evo clutch

I loosely worked out it'd cost about £1500-1600 for a manual conversion including a sports evo clutch.

No probs... I'm afetr more detail so I can weigh up buying an Auto or a Manual.

There are some decent autos out there and really cheap, the end result should be a manual VR4

I'll try and remember what you need.

    1. Manual transmission (obviously).
    2. Clutch pedal, master cylinder, and clutch lines.
    3. Brake pedal (the auto brake pedal doesn't clear the clutch pedal).
    4. Manual lay shaft (this is the shaft that goes through the transmission, joining the front diff in the transfer case with the passenger's side axle). This is needed as the auto lay shaft is 10mm longer, which if used, will cause the passenger's side inner cv cup to not seal correctly with the transmission, resulting in gear oil leakage.
    5. I THINK you may need the manual passenger's side axle.
    6. Clutch and flywheel etc.

I may have missed some things.

Nice one guys.... its not actually that of a big job, just a matter of sourcing the right parts and a day or 2 in the garage.... seems to be al bolt on aswell... no customisations...! LOL

What about he electronics side of it?

It will be hard to get hold of a gearbox... any one know one going or someon breaking a manual VR4?

There is some work required to the electrics to get it to run (bypass the park inhibitor), and for the reverse light switch.
