I've been looking at down pipes this afternoon. This looks like an ideal opportunity for a group buy

Nice but watch out! The coppers hang about in the exit to that carpark on the left sometimes and you can't see them 'til it's too late!

Chris I'm very happy with the downpipes. I'm just going to get the flexi bit cut out & a new one welded in place. Going to have a look to see If I can bolt on some sort of skid plate to protect it.

Ah ok. Did you get yours as part of the group buy or source them elsewhere?

If you want to organise another group buy we would be happy to do another one. I enquired months ago but there didn't seem to be anyone wanting to be responsible for organising it.

Our plan was to also release a new Version 2 pipe with some subtle changes. With some people with lowered cars having the front flex pipe being scraped, we are going to delete the front flex join and instead make it a sliding pipe system which can be welded or clamped once fitted to the vehicle. This way there would be some additional ground clearance, but the ability to retain some movement for variations in the manafacturing process and make it easier for fitment. That was my only proposed change for future designs.

The sliding pipe idea really doesn't seem right to me, not only woul dit look unprofessonal but without the flexi the stresses on the pipe would be too much for it, which is why there's one there in the first place.....or am I talking rubbish?

the downpipes conect to both turbos , there is no movement between those two points as both turbos are firmly fixed to the heads and block

the flexi pipe is to allow for expansion /contration of the downpipes due to the extremes of heat involved

the rear flexi is the one needed to allow the whole system to flex

Ah so we are only discussing the front flexi rather than the main flexi! Sorry, I knew I must be getting it wrong somewhere. I'm still not sure about a slider pipe that can be clamped but I don't have to worry for now.

The front flex was only ever added to allow for some movement in the front pipe in relation to the rear pipe to make it easier for fitment, as well as to give some movement for any variations in the manafacturing process. With them being fixed without a flex pipe if the welding / pipe length was even a little bit off, it would not meet up properly and you have exhaust leaks. With the front flex fitted, it gave you some movement to compensate and ensure easy fitment.

A sliding pipe setup woudl provide same benefit, but also provide greater ground clearance which some lowered vehicles are having issues with.

The rear main flex is the one that does all the work from engine movement.
