    Cleaning products for motorbike plastics/fairings

    to all bikers

as my bike is currently sorn...ive taken the oppertunity to strip the fairings off and give them a good clean and polish.

what products do u use? i have some black marks on the white tail fairing there from my boots...catch the tail occasinally getting off.

i cant get the marks to shift..............any suggestions? been tempted to try a rag with some petrol on it but wouldnt want to harm the laquer or even the plastic itself.

also do u use a rust inhibitor of any sort?

Depends on how far you want to go, even though I only have an RS125, I went a bit too far, well, it still needs work, if the garage ever fixes it.

First get yourself a clay kit, try that as it may take the marks out
    If not Menzerna intensive polish
    If that doesn't work G10
    If that doesn't work G6
If that doesn't work I will be very surprised bu G3

Get yourself a decent hardwax, £30 should get you something nice, Victoria concours is a good wax

Zymol wash is a good cleaner, can get it from Halfords

Rust inhibitor, mine being an Aprilia it doesn't go out in the rain, or if it is slightly damp.

With mine, I have gone to silly lengths to get it clean, as the bike hadn't been looked after by previous owners,
Going from this level of shine

To this level took 7 days

But tar and glue remover over any tar, don't put it near any stickers though
Wash it down and hose it off, don't use a pressure washer.
    Dry it
    Clay it
    Polish with Menzerna intensive polish
Buff off with decent MF cloths
    Apply coat of wax

All time and money, mostly time though

ETA: Most important thing to remember, is when you have done all of it, sell it and buy a two stroke

The problem with the RS250 is exactly that, you just can't get one for love nor money, well not a decent one, I would love one as well, maybe I will look out for one when I finally get my arse in gear to do the test, although for what its worth, I may just de-restrict the RS as she is a beast, and has been fully rebuilt, but maybe turn it into an extrema, then I can head for around 250bhp per litre.

As for getting rid of oil, if there are no stickers or plastics, I use thinners with a paint brush and a tooth brush.
