    FS: RWD Transfer Case

For sale is 1 transfer case which has been modified for RWD

It is currently in my vehicle as I wanted to test drive it. There are currently two issues with it, one I will look at fixing before any sale completes and the other that cannot be fixed. These are

    1) It whines a bit. I need to set the gear meshing again. This isn't a big job as such, but the sooner it gets done the better.
    2) In a standard VR-4 if you go around a corner in 2nd and start pushing your accelerator you accelerate. With this transfer case the rear tyres (Eagle F1 GSD3s) seem to turn to wax and you start to slide. I cannot fix this issue

So far the transfer case has had the following modifications

    1) Removed the front diff spider gears and replaced with bushings. (Allows the front wheels to free-wheel while still being hooked up like standard... i.e. looks standard)
    2) Welded the front diff to the viscous coupler. This is the same as locking the centre diff.
    3) re did bearing clearances.
    4) upgraded casing bolts to 10mm (from the standard 8mm) to increase reliability
    5) general clean etc of internals

    Reasonable offers considered.

In a way it is only worth what someone will pay for it... It does have to be enough to motivate me to take it out of the car though

With the amount of work that has gone into it, I was thinking about $500 would be fair.

I should warn anyone who wants to do this sort of mod though, even in perfect weather my Galant wants to slide very easily even on the standard suspension and good tyres. This is potentially very dangerous if you try and drive it in the same manner you would when it is AWD.
Another note is that I also have a LSD rear diff... It will behave differently with AYC or an open diff.

It depends on what is actually dying on them. In honesty it probably isn't designed to transfer the amount of torque that is being seen to the transfer hypoid gear. Not only that, you are also asking a lot of a known weak point which is the casing.

I would suggest you first of all make sure all the bearings are in good condition, ensure that there is sufficient load when the casing is bolted up, upgrade the bolts to 10mm and then finally make sure the meshing pattern is correct.

What sort of help are you after?

Yeah, thats why I am selling it rather than keeping it. The cusco tarmac gear diff is good fun without turning the car lethal.
