    Lash Adjusters!

    Gents!

Just seeing out of the people who bought from Group buy Glenn organised in the autumn, who has fitted their Lash Adjusters yet and if so have you noticed an improvement in the running sound?

Mine are hopefully being fitted this week.

Last Saturday, John the Antique and Nutter John heard first hand how loud mine sound so im looking forward to getting the new ones in! I will record a sound/video snippet and try post it up shortly of what a bad example of Noisy Lash Adjusters sound like on our cars!

A set were fitted on Sunday ,
They have covered about 50 miles but as yet they have not bleed them selves so are rather noisey ( more so than the originals ) but after speaking with Ben they can take upto 300 miles to settle down so we are going to wait and see how they sound after the 300 miles ( mid next week with the amount the driver uses the car )

The oil was changed at the same time so it has good fresh AMSoil in there so that is ruled out

Obviously there is a prime and bleed procedure which nutter spoke to me about and did do, but i have known lashers take an age to shut up.

When we do them, especially so if the customer is waiting, i always mention in advance that it is likely that they will sound HORRIFIC when you first start the car up. No matter what you do you find that they do one of three things:-

They go in, and just to make me look like a biff, they are quiet straight away

They go in, rattle like a bugger, and then quiten down over 30-50 miles/mins of bleeding.

They go in, rattle like a bugger and take 250-300 miles to settle.

Every now and then obviously you get a duff set too.

No lashers are ever silent though- for a long time in the GTO world people said the 3rd gen lifters were silent- but they aren't! They are just quieter than noisey warn out old ones.

    Cheers,

    Ben.

It was my set John fitted for me.
What is strange is that they are quiet when you first start the engine and get noisy as the engine warms up.
They must have done about 150m miles or more now and I really can not believe they are now going to get better and am seriously considering asking John to put the old ones back in as soon as possible - it really does sound horrible when warm!

Hopefully they will settle down for you Kim,

Didnt realise they took so long to shut up! Taught once a bit of oil was in them they would run nicely!

Yep! What Ben said. Although I haven't experienced a set taking hundreds of miles to go quiet yet. I assume you have done the rev it - idle it - rev it - idle it procedure?

Yes John did it and I have done it.
It,s the fact that they are quiet when cold that is puzzling me?

The oil will thin when warm so that could explain it ?

if no joy by the weekend Kim then we can try a full rebleed again which takes about 15 mins of 0-3000 over 15secs then straight off the throttle , then rest for 15 seconds , repeat for about 7.5 mins or longer

You can Steve, but in my experience you can spend a lot of time achieving little. The last set I fitted I did no prep on at all and they were close to silent on start up.

I suppose its possible that a weak oil pump could be to blame. If there is insufficient flow of oil it may struggle to reach the lashers.

'97 Manual Legnum in silver with some subtle mods

My first VR4 - '97 Legnum Dark Green & mean ...it was love at first sight - now sold

It normally makes a very minimal differnce. I've done it in the past, as well as diesel and oil diesel mix, doesn't seem seem to make a lot of odds.

    Cheers,

    Ben.

I've had mine fitted & quiet when start & gradually get slight noise whilst warming up. Amsoil oil change at same time. I havn't heard them myself, as Jonnie is borrowing my car today. Has only done approx 20 miles since fitted though so will expect them to get quiter
Possibly the only VR4 that was driven by the current owner before being registered..... & it's a UK car

    Yes still noisy, really horrible.
I had a chat with John earlier - trying to make arrangements to have them taken back out.
