    Ultimate performance mod

Hey guys, some of you may remember that I have a spare legnum chassis that I'm planning on converting into a ute at some stage. The original plan was to put a worked vr4 engine into it and leave it as is. However, recently I purchased the following:

    153447228_full.jpg155516513_full.jpg153447223_full.jpg

The plan is to make a new tubular subframe to make room for the trans, as well as enlarging the propshaft tunnel at the front of the car, again to make room for the trans. The hardest part I'm having to figure out at the moment is how to move the steering rack, while maintaining the steering geometry. I have some ideas, but nothing solid yet.

wow should be a blast with that in , just move the rack up the bukhead and use longer arms (steering arms not your arms before some smart botty says it )

I thought of doing that, but figured it would mess with the bump steer too much. My current thinking is to move it forward of the front subframe, below the engine, and have a pinion type linkage from the front to the rear where it used to be. Hopefully retaining the geometry.

I forgot to mention that this engine will be getting a pair of td04s on it initially, aiming for around 500hp at the wheels.

You can get remote electric racks that have no coloumn , not sure what the feel like but it should work

TD04's , pah go for two evo td05 turbos as it;s a 4.0 V8 should work nice at around 540 bhp with headroom for over 600 out of the tubs .

From what I read those engines are farily strong so big power should be easy cheap and fun

Well the reason I was thinking td04s is that you can get them for next to nothing here. In the long term I would be putting a pair of ball bearing turbos of some sort on there. The stock internals in this early revision of the engine are generally accepted to be good for around 500 to 600hp. Later on down the track I will be looking at forging the internals and putting modified cams in from kelford, but for now I want to do an on the cheap build that gets everything in and running to prove the concept.

hey scott i was sitting on the couch tonight and had a brainwave, unsure how high or low the 1uz will mount but if you can dry sump the 1uz and mount the rack underneath the engine. just an idea

There's already enough room under the high end of the sump for the rack. The problem is still how to link the rack to the knuckles and keep the steering geometry.

Yeah, I'm contemplating a crank sort of system where the steering rack is under the engine and turns a crank attached to a pipe or something that extends the rotational motion back up to the same horizontal plane as the original steering rack position, back through another crank into linear motion.

This arrived today, I'm not 100% sure if I'll be using it yet as it will make the build a lot more complicated.

It's a 1uz-fe sump from a 4wd vehicle. It has a hole through the center of it for the front center axle, and mounting points for the front diff. So essentially I'm tempted to make this 4wd, but I will also need the diff, custom axles, and a front prop shaft.

I bought this today for the rear end. Hopefully it should go some way to avoiding the issues Adam has been having.

It's just an open r180 in there, I plan to get a decent LSD for it later on once the car is ready to roll.
