HKS Silent HiPower exhaust fitted today

Ever since buying the Evo I have wanted to change the exhaust. Mainly because the exhaust that was on there, although it sounded very good did not look right as the tailpipe was far too small for the cut out in the bumper. Also, as it was mild steel it was starting to rust on the welds. The exhaust was an Ashley Group N exhaust which was a 2.5" bore with the same size tailpipe (one of the rules for Group N apparently). The previous owner fitted this as he "didn't like the sound of stainless exhausts ...". I asked Ben at Eurospec a few months back what exhaust he recommended for my Evo (as there are lots of off the shelf options for Evos) and he said Apexi or HKS. Both are expensive new so I bided my time looking for a good second hand one. Well, recently two HKS Silent HiPower exhausts came up on the MLR. The first one I went to look at was not in great condition (had a dent in the backbox that was not advertised ) but this one (even though I am actually the third owner) is in great condition and has polished up really well, the back box is like new! I am actually chuffed to bits with it, it looks much better than before, fits fantastic and the quality is awesome. The only possible downside is that it's a bit quieter but I am actually really pleased with the way it sounds too (the other one was a tad loud when starting the car up early in the morning).

Anyway, enough waffling here are some pics ... the first two show a before and after. And yes before anyone says anything I know I need to polish the underseal overspray on the bottom of my rear bumper ... I also took these before I washed the car but unfortunately it was dark when I finished to couldn't take any more pics.

Suits the car really well! Is it actually silent or just not really loud?

Possibly. I went for a little blast this evening and it did feel a bit quicker but that may have been a combination of the placebo affect and that fact is was -2oC so there was some nice cold air going in the intake! I will find out for sure whether it has made any difference at the RR day on Saturday.

They call it Silent as it's designed as a low noise performance exhaust. This is the blurb on the HKS site: "Silent Hi-Power mufflers offer high performance and sporty appearance with the added benefit of reduced noise levels making it the best choice for more mature enthusiasts". I actually love the way it sounds, just a nice extra burble on tickover, no real noticeable difference in the cabin when driving normally but opens up nicely on boost. I must be getting "mature"

Looks more like an Evo now mate Look forward to seeing/hearing it in a few days.

I think these max out at 93dB compared to the factory 91dB.

And we can forgive the underseal overspray.......but the state of those wheels is a disgrace

I know mate that is the result of two weeks of use and one of those being a taxi service whilst the Ka was off the road due to the leaking diff oil seal.

But they are nice and clean again now anyway ... I could take some photos to prove it but the Evo is tucked away in the garage this week ready for the RR day on Saturday.

I must admit this exhaust does look very similar to the one I had on the VR-4(s).
