Yes! there are at least 2 guys who have done this, I believe one is from Poland, I am sure they will be along soon, or someone who knows who has done this will be along to let you know who. there are photos on here somewhere.
Updating Soon!! 1998 Legnum VR4, fully serviced every 4500 miles. Fully Amsoil'd. Falken 453's, EVO 8 FQ320 rear diff.
That what I did for living last couple of years...
Where are you from?
sorted
And the price depends on:
1. if your car is M/T or A/T.
2. how much equipment you want in your converted car (electric seats, heated seats, sunroof, 4 airabgs, cruise control, xenon, headlamp leveling, headlamp washer and so on...)
3. if you have a donor car.
I'm about to convert one at the moment, deadline marts. Then I have another customer waiting for conversion. So next two month, I can't.
There about 6 to 8 already converted Legnums in PL I'm aware of.
Basically, you need to decide which method would you like to choose:
- vr4 as a base vehicle and fl Galant v6 as a donor
- fl Galant v6 as a base vehicle and vr4 as a donor.
Both ways were done in PL and apparently nowadays opinion is that it's better and safe to do first mentioned way.
Anyway, you need to find any Galant v6 after 2nd facelift (2001) as a donor vehicle with undamaged front end. Method is to cut out firewall from donor vehicle and weld into vr4 (some fiddling with chasis number to preserve). It's down to swap steering rack and auxiliares from v6 to vr4.
So along welding you will need to swap:
- interior (main dash, centre console, seats, door cards, etc.)
- brake, clutch, gas pedals (manual), or a/t pedals and linkage
- handbrake
- electric looms
- side mirrors
- headlights
- steering rack
- some of engine auxilliares
- wiper motor and blades
That's what I remember.
Overall, the most important part of the job is swap of firewall. It's not area for any cowboy amateur job due to safety feature. It must be a profi job by very very skilled welder.
There are few pictures in Kochajj thread how he's done his LHD conversion.
Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar
Hi, where are you living in czech republic? I´m from Zittau in Germany, its 5 km from poland and 10 km from czech. I have a friend in Berlin. he does a very good job with LHD conversion and engin swaps to LHD cars.
maybe you can contact him, english is no problem. look at
teske-motors.com
i m interested as well by a LHD conversion, any range of price can you give me (just for conversion considering we have a donor V6)
2500-3000 eur
I`ve bought a LHD VR4 in Bulgaria. And the guy sold now another LHD VR4. I think he also knows some guys which can convert a VR4 from RHD to LHD.
crossmember? -sorry I do not understand. I have to use my car as a donor because of the firewall and the chassis number, I was just wondering what else I need to purchase excess
You will use your '98 N/A V6 chassis number on the converted VR4?! Is that really legal in Croatia??
Crossmember is also called front subframe
