Bungees look interesting bud! They should hold for most stuff but a big impact might test them. Could you bolt a bracket in somehow to the load hooks?

I should do that to be on the safe side although the box is wedged in really tight. I keep trying to work out what would happen if about 20 guys slammed the box really hard from the rear.

The main idea was to make a box small enough to bolt onto a rear strut brace. That would mean 12" subs max and i don't want to go that way.

    What about rok straps?

I had them in my old leggie with a 20ishkg box(Ported 18mm mdf box with a decent sub in it) and it never moved at all...
    100_0486.jpg

I now have them in my Galant and have an even heavier box and sub, and have even been to the track including spinning the car, and gravel roads and the box has never even moved....

Note below pic is another of my old subs with the strap install over the top.. lol

So the strap goes over the box and is screwed down into the panel? I like the idea of these straps, just need more ideas on the fixing please.

    Hey Jamil,

Off a quick measurement my ones are 55ish inches long from end to end(should come in pairs). I run them over the box screwed into the MDF floor on both sides in the Galant.

In the leggie, I had them secured on the seat bolt mounts, but this wouldnt have stopped the box bouncing up and down.

You could mount them to the wheel wells via bolts?

The DLS sounded very nice, clear and punchy even in a not so great ported box, but it didnt have the output of the RE(made 138.6 db off about 500RMS), even in a correctly designed enclosure.. I now have an Image Dynamics iDMAX 12 in the car which is just as clear, but louder even in a sealed box.. Am going to build a ported box for it soon.

    J

Thanks for the info on the straps. The box is mounted on an MDF floor anyway so i can secure it like that.

IDMAX 12 sounds like the way to go. The response curve on BB6 Pro looks like a JL 13W7, ie low and so you would not need a large box to pound. For ported i would have thought a lot of the lows would be sacrificed for the punchier sound but it depends if the music you listen to needs that. What freq. are you planning to tune it to anyway?

Anyhow, i can screenshot some graphs if you get round to designing a ported box!

Or this but just the first 19 seconds turn it right up and it will make you s**t your pants. it would test you step quite nicely i think.

The first track the speakers can deal with no probs. It would go ear scrapingly loud. The second, ok till 17 secs then Blam! That really would wake someone up!

the second one if you didn't know what was coming is a bit of a shocker and the track is old enough now that a lot of the younger generation will never have heard it.

if have the stereo loud enough to make the opening 15 second loud it really will take you by surprise.

No worries re the straps, they are very useful. Will have to find another set for my mates install once I get into that.. lol

According to the ID site they recommend 2.5cuft @ 28ishhz, listen to a lot of d'n'b & dubstep(Pendulum, Concord Dawn, Sal Dub etc), and the missus's is a bit of a basshead as well....

Gettin bass out of the Galant is proving a tall order after how easy the Leggie was to get loud... PB was 142.2 db @42 hz with a DD 9512 d2, e-audio 3000d, 4g power wire and a 350ish cca battery... lol

I have plotted some graphs for you - a) sealed (pink line) b) 2.5 cu.ft@28Hz (blue line) c) 3.0 cu.ft@25Hz (green line). I have included the incar transfer response as 6db per octave at 70Hz.

    IDMAX 12 Amplitude response.JPG

    IDMAX 12 Group Delay.JPG

    IDMAX 12 Cone displacement.JPG

The tradeoff for the 3 cu. ft box is the increased lag in the sound under 32Hz or so. However, above that, the sound is tighter, almost comparable to sealed. But look at the output and the flatness of the amplitude response from 30Hz!

Is your Galant a normal Saloon? Does it have a rear metal shelf and a ski hatch? If so, you can consider a 4th order bandpass design.

A 3cuft box will be hard to fit into the car, I already have issues with a 1.5 gross box with the battery in the back too... lol

The galants have a metal rear shelf, but they have a big opening behind the seats, though that will be sealed when I move my amp into the back of the car again...

With a bandpass you could have the port facing the back of the seats, firing into the gap. The amp could be mounted on the rear of the box, in this case, the side facing the boot.
