Servicing our money pitts

Guys I just had a chat with Ron Millin from Road,Race & Rally (Ralliart NZ) about the servicing of our cars,

1/ The timing belt needs to be done at 80,000Km. This includes doing the Cam belt, tensioner, water pump etc. Cost $1300

2/ Regular Service, including Castrol R Fully synthetic oil and oil filter Cost $350 Approx. Should be done atleast every 10,000km

3/ AYC service this includes the AYC fluid and additive and setting the plates Cost, $360 approx. I am still to confirm the frequency for this.

These prices don't include the Air filters, Fuel filters or spark plugs, which they will do only when they have spoken to the owner of the car and only if actually required, ie the spark plugs in the front bank of cylinders are checked if fine then the others should be, if not the rear set are checked at the same time.

I don't know about you guys but I will be taking my car to Ron, and yes he is Autosure approved repairer and servicer.

I'm getting my AYC fluid changed and bleed tomorrow. Price is $200. Not sure about the setting of plates, never been mentioned to me before service. How often does Ron say to do the AYC oil?

I change my oil every 5000k and use synthetic. I notice the oil is rather brown after that amount of km's.

I got a quote from Dallas Motors (the Mitsubishi dealer in Hamilton) of $360 to do the AYC service. Thats the same as dickytim's ralliart quote so I guess that must be the standard price.

$350 for a service???? Just take it down to the AA servicing... $150 for a full service.

Of course that doesnt cover the air filter or spark plugs. But then I have a pod filter and my spark plugs that only need changing every 50,000k's

Cambelt change, got a quote through midas for $450-$550

I've never heard of it before, guy at Donnithorne Simms said nothing to me before they did the fluid change for the AYC. I guess setting the plates is something to do with the clutches in the diff :shrug:

Costs:

Fluid/diff oil: $41.23
LSD Friction Mod oil: $37.35
Techician fee: $80
Good old GST: $19.82

Total: $178.40

Thanks for the info Rhys, I'm about to get my trans fluid flushed and the AYC oil changed at D-Simms, so I'll see what they quote me. I was told about NZD220 for the trans and and about NZD200 for the AYC. Oh and I've just gone over 100 thousand Km so I'd be interested to find out if my cambelt etc has been changed. I've got the original Japanese service book but haven't looked specifically for the cam belt service. I seem to remember that that is about NZD1000.

Just my two cents:

I wouldn't let a non-mitsi specialist work on my car. I did a full "D" Service, which included

1) Cambelt
2) Spark plugs
3) Waterpump
4) AYC Fluid
5) Transmission Fluid
6) Power Steering and other Belts replacement
7) Oil and filter change
Plus other "D" Service Checks

what is done at each service "A" (6 months), "B" (1 yearly), "C"(2 yearly), and "D" (5 yearly)

Total price approx $2,000

I agree with KIwi TT, take your car to a Mitsi dealer, just got cambelt done on my GDi, including both fuel filters and all belts etc $860

Nah I'll stick with what I know, have had no problems with either Midas or AA servicing and they have done all my cars in the past with no issues. Plus they only replace what needs to be replaced.

I'm not paying $2000... thats just crazy....

It felt a bit like that as well. But I had just bought the car, and not knowing it's servicing history (Jap-Import), I wanted to be sure everything was fine.

Luckily, it is only a once every 5 year charge. Regular servicing is usually under $500 per six months.

$500 isn't bad then My goal for next year is to drive the car as little as possible. Can't afford to replace the tyres again

Get the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 - 17" were only $200 + Gst and Fitting/balancing and alignment from Frank Allen tyres. 18" may be $50-100 more.

Love them Eagle F1's kiwiTT, we just did Rally of the North, spectating and camera work. Drove up Fri night, whizzed around Sat, back home to Aucks Sun. What an awesome drive, never felt unsafe in any corner or wet situation anywhere. Not so **** hot on gravel but fun to get it a bit loose , .. carefully.

Cambelt at Auckland Motors for the 96 VR4 was $1300, included full service though. AYC setup with MUT to work the pumps etc was about $300 I think, AYC fluid, $80 per litre !!

We'd still rather have the VR4 serviced by someone who knows the car and it's idiocyncracies, it's finely tuned beast. AA ain't for us for sure.
