    Re-filling the Cooling System.

I've just replaced my water pump which meant draining the cooling system. when re-filling what's the correct method?
the method I've been using is:
    1) Open the bleed screw above the thermostat.
    2) Pour coolant in slowly through the top of the radiator, once full close the bleed screw.
    3) Fill the expansion tank up to the max mark.
    4) Run the engine with the heater on max till the thermostat opens.
    5) Top up coolant level through radiator.

The only problem i'm having is that when i've run the engine and even gone for a short run the coolant level in the radiator doesn't seem to drop very far. The temperature gauge goes up to just below halfway and stops there. My concern is that I only put back in about 3.5 litres when i was expecting to put about 8ltrs in. Am I doing everything right?

    Thanks in advance.

I changed mine twice recently after changing the radiator & then after the timing belt & my car only took about 3.5L & it doesn't drop much.
The mighty Leedsnum has gone but the Airtrek mods will soon fill this space

Most of the coolant in the block stays there unless you opened the drain plugs in the block. The radiator and hoses to it only take about the 3.5 litres you mentioned. Sounds like the amount is about right to me.
