OUCH! Cyclist rides into the back of my stationary Galant...

So, there I was watching TV last night minding my own business. I'd left my Galant outside in the street instead of on the driveway - suddenly BANG! I ran to the window, lots of folk were on the pavement, cars still passing, outside. Upon further investigation, a cyclist rode full speed into the back of my parked car!

He was blinded by the stingingly bright sun - the resulting damage is below. His helmet saved him, just a graze to his eye. Bumper and boot lid knackered - his front tyre and wheel were fine, not even buckled!

He's admitted responsibility, so off to Mitsubishi later for a quote on bumper, boot lid, spray job, etc. I reckon I'll be around £2.5 > £3k. A boot lid was, from memory £800 + VAT many years ago, plus fitting, parts (locks, etc) swapped over and without paint and preparation.

Anyway, every one is fine - I'll be claiming from his insurance, be it bike insurance, contents insurance, motor insurance - or plain cash. :-)

    And his cycle undamaged!

Just heard from the guy - he has cycle insurance, so every one is happy! At least he was one of the better 'breed; of cyclists and not one of these spanners who doesn't take care out on the highways and byways. :-)

Just waiting on the quote through from Mitsubishi's body shop. The guys at SMC couldn't believe a bicycle caused that damage - and the service guy was gutted for me as he said "I love your car" Awwwwwww! :-)

Anyway they thust a Mitsubishi Accident Care leaflet in my hand where by it guarentees genuine parts are used, free courtesy car, nationwide recovery, guaranteed workmanship and paint, etc. You call a number and they look after everything for you. Sounds good, all questions answered in the Q&A on the back but will check it out more. I'll be using approved body shop, guaranteed workmanship and pants, etc, will get a free car for the duration ( to go with the Mondeo I already have for my paint spill thanks to B&Q ruining my leather and floor carpet!)

    Hehehe, Thanks, Steve!

They really do guarantee their pants.... I did ask if it was the same guarantee for the ladies knickers they supply, as an option, but they said they come with only a limited warranty! Hehehe!

Thing is though Philip the woman`s underwear come from C&A, so they know which way round they fit.

Can't believe how much damage one cyclist has managed!

Also can't believe how much bad luck you're having with accidental damage recently!

And definitely can't believe on the other hand how much GOOD fortune you are getting with the fact that all the other parties involved are coughing up!

    It's just all

It'll be looking as good as new again pretty soon, I'd say!

Gang, thank you for your kind comments and support, it's much appreciated.

I've just received the quote back from the Mitsubishi approved body shop - shockingly cheap - including parts, labour, paint, the lot - DRUM ROLL!!!!!! £1,638 including VAT!

We all love photos - so here are the latest batch from yesterday afternoon at the body shop, photos its assessor took to illustrate the quote.

Forgive the filthy car - it hasn't had its TLC this year... yet! :-)

There *should* be dents in the roof and bonnet, from where the cyclist *should* have been bouncing over the top of your car!

Thanks, Pete. Looks bad. Just had the car washed and it looks lush, aside from the back!

Car is insured under an agreed value policy of £6k, costs me £34.00 a year more, so it'll be fine. I say that as the interior that needs replacing after a negligent DIY store's spill of White gloss over my footwell carpet and leather seat has come to £2.5k plus free rental of a Mondeo, which I've had for a month now and counting as a lack of parts from Japan, all being paid for by the DIY store's insurance. There's a thread undress the FS section where I am giving away the carpet and seat for free. See the damage pictures there!

An unlucky month for me over the last four weeks but lucky that it is not costing me or my insurance a penny.
