Folks, I may have a 'live one' on my hands with this cyclist!

So, I sent him the quote for repair Friday afternoon and requesting his insurance details by return email. He had promised to send me the details on Thursday once he'd checked his excess. Anyway, 24 hours pass since he received the quote with no response. I emailed again this afternoon requesting his insurance details and asked did he receive the quote. Within 30 minutes I heard back from him saying he's sleeping lots as he's on medication and that he will respond on Monday. Hmmmm, I must of caught him between winks! He must of been in shock that the repair isn't within his excess and it is £1,700!

Roll on Monday. No response by 1pm and I'll get heavy with the 'big guns' and proceed legal action.

    Happy weekend, folks!

I'll get pictures of my billion times cleaner looking car on here soon on this thread!

he must be pretty shaken up, (not just with the quote!), probably taking it easy on meds, he must have been going quite fast, and I guess he didn't brake?, so he will be feeling sore, prob resting over weekend, hope it all works out.

...however, since the sun has come out and beating down on the car, the impact the cyclist made by hitting the rear screen and rolling over the rear screen to the pavement has resulted in the following images - a shattered window!

The sound of the screen as I type is that of standing next to a bowl of Rice Crispies in cold milk!

Anyway, car is off to the dealership's body shop now where it will stay until the cyclist's insurance pays up - and the parts come from Japan! I will be driving the Ford Mondeo, thanks to the big DIY Store who spilt paint over my leather and whatever his insurance give me :-)

Sorry Philip, I'm getting confused... the cyclist hit the rear and obviously hit the screen. I take it that the rear screen didnt break at the time, and since the sun has come out and heated up the car, the change of temperature has shattered it?

And its past 1pm on Monday now, any update from the cyclist and/or his insurance?

I would say it was probably chassis twist or an inquisitive finger

Yep, that's right Atik. Rear screen fine - then it just 'popped'. Reception, here at work, were by the front door and the car was 6 feet away from them when they said it just 'popped'. The impact where the shatter has happened is exactly where the cylist said at the time he went rolling over the car, landing on the screen as he continued to fall on the pavement.

I've heard from him, I've his insurance details. I've rung the insurance, am submitting my claim - although this won't be an easy ride. His insurers are already trying it on by saying I have to "mitigate my costs" by using the cheapest and non-approved body shop and parts (legally incorrect in my situation); that I am obliged to report it to my insurers (again, in my situation legally incorrect) and that they'll write to their insured and ask him to submit a claim, if he doesn't then tough. Again, incorrect legally and otherwise.

At least the police came out and have a full statement of him admitting full responsibility and liabillty (I heard him give his statement) and the same in writing to me in an email the following day.

Blimmin 'eck that is one hell of a month for you! First the inside, now the outside!?

Sorry about the bad luck you're having but at least it sounds like you'll come out of it with some nice new shiny bits

I too have ridden straight into the back of a car in my teens. Trouble was that it was a Land Rover pickup although I wasn't doing the speed this guy was at either!

A quick update - I heard from the cyclist's insurance today. They're all set to approve all the work to the car, including the rear screen and are expecting to give the go ahead early next week. The cyclist will pay the body shop his £500 excess and his insurers the rest.

    A happy turn of events!

Glad it's getting sorted. These things are always a PITA but at least the guy had insurance and is picking up the bill. Hope it gets sorted without too much more aggravation.

The other mishap - the paint spill - I'm still waiting on the parts to come from Japan! Six weeks and counting! Still have the rental Mondeo, thanks to the DIY chain, that I'm driving around in.

I'm guessing once sign off comes on the cyclist damage it may be another month for the parts to come at least. Dealer quotes 21 working days and that was before the earthquake and tsunami. If the interior comes before the exterior parts, then I'll get the dealer to hold off from sorting the interior until the exterior is done otherwise there'll be glass residue over the new interior bits when the body shop comes to take the rear screen out completely. What I'll do is give back the Mondeo (which I'll have to) and hire a new car. The cyclist's insurance has already authorised a like-for-like hire car while mine is off the road, so the two will dovetail nicely.

I do miss driving my Galant! :-)

    Hi gang!

Well, two months on, today I signed off my car at the body shop! Photos below!

I drove it all of 100 yards to the Mitsubishi dealership to now undergo the interior rip out in and reinstall! Just this week Mitsubishi informed me they can no longer get hold of the Elegance leather seats - so the insurance is paying for a leather specialist to come in to clean and restore the seat.
