    making turbos sound louder

    Hi all hope everybody's well!

I'm having a new exhaust fitted to my 1998 legnum (my mate blew the exhaust) but i'm wanting something that will make the turbos sound more prominent.
Also its limited to 120mph & was wondering how hard it is to derestrict it plus i'm having it remapped so what bhp gains can i acspect?
I'm quite a newbie when it comes to jap cars as you can tell lol.

    Cheers!

Turbos shouldn't be loud, they are simply two fans spinning at speed. What do you want to hear? Dump valves make the woosh if air noise, external wastegates make a screamy noise, forcing the turbos to stall makes a chopping noise...

Derestricting is easy, just chop a wire. You should be able to search this site for the details.

Gains depend on how the remap is being done and what the supporting mods are. Have a look for rolling road threads to get an idea of power with mods.

    hey nick cheers mate.
I'm wanting more of a whistle from em, forcing the turbos to doesn't that cause serge pressure? where does the waste gate fit?

one thing i haven't seen on here is nobody has fitted a supercharger aswell as a turbo a bit like the gtr, i've just replaced my gladder supercharger on my mk2 golf edition 1 g60 with a lysholm charger which is running 12psi from 1000rpm right the way through to 7000rpm.

If you really wanted a sort of screamer pipe set up as you can get with external wastegates, you can modify your stock turbo housing and elbows to do this. Its a lot of work just for a noise though.

Also, if you eliminate the maf and run individual air filters then you can get quite the induction noise (mine was pretty epic in that respect)

I'm not sure how much use a supercharger would be. My old car was making significant boost at 2500 rpm, so adding a supercharger would potentially be a lot of work and money for relatively little gain.

More boost, hardpipes and/or induction kit will all make a diff. If your really desperate I've heard of people putting a kazoo in the air intake (if you must make sure it won't get swallowed by the car). Obviously dump valves are also good turbo advertisers...

    Edit:
Oh yeah a big boost leak will also make it more prominent provided you don't want to go that fast.

Full hard pipes + front pipes + pod + boost.

That will whistle. I understand what you want to hear. I love it when mine comes on boost

Gowf can you explain about the maf, the first option sounds a bit of hard work like you said just for the sound. how hard is it to fit the waste gate?

Gowf means take out the MAF altogether and use a MAP sensor to work out your manufold air pressure. You will need a piggy back or new standalone ECU to do this.

Hardpipes are a replacement for the softer flexible pipes that transmit your airflow around the engine ie from the turbo to the intercooler, intercooler to inlet etc. As they are hard you can hear the air echoing around them more so than you can with soft flexi pipes.

Godzilla means use a hard pipe kit (search for hard pipes) + new uprated downpipe (search downpipe) + pod fliter (everyone will tell you not to) + boost - ie run a higher boost with some sort of electronics or mechanical boost controller (search boost control)

    Hope this helps

Right i get it now sorry guys i told you i was a bit dim lol, are all these things hard to fit? i don't know if i mentioned it before i got run over by a car in 1998 when i 16 which broke my neck leaving me paralyzed from the neck down so obviously i can't drive but still love my cars & speed.
So anything that has to be done would be done by mates or a garage!

^^ I am aware of that.

What he asked was how to get spool noise. Pod will increase spool noise. That is fact.

he is refering about a pod air filter (induction ) rather than a standard air box that it currently has , easy to change but will lose power

Right why would it lose power? i would have thought it would help it?

i emailed blitz & asked about air filters they recommended either of these.

Unless you eliminate the maf, in which case it most definitely is a power gainer
