Have you and experience of any block work? If you haven't I'd get someone who has to do it for ya! It's trickier that you may think to get them straight if you haven't done it before.
There are a few important factors involved, posting up a photo of what it has been holding back would help as well as a photo of how badly it has cracked.
Does it get very damp behind there?
How long was the existing wall there before it broke?
Are you fussy about the finish or do you just want a practical solution?
Lots to discuss here!
James is right pics would be great help
ill get some pics tomorrow chaps..luckly my mate called me whos done brick laying and said he'll give me a hand even though he hasnt done a retainind wall.
the thickness at the moment is 2 bricks, i think it was built a very long time ago possibly 20 years plus and the construction doesnt look good either.
the top of the area it holds back is slabbed , i lefted them up and they seem to have been layed correcty with sand etc..

The wall doesn't sound thick enough & the water could be building up behind it if there isn't any weep holes the wall. You could just build another 215mm wall in front of it & put weep holes through both walls.
