    sticking brakes

i noticed something didnt feel right yesterday morning so i had a little experiment when i got home a little while ago. i reversed into my drive as normal and as there is a slight slope, expected the car to roll forward but it didnt. i reversed a little bit and dipped the clutch and the car stopped as though i had used the brake. there are other possible factors:
there is a plastic sounding rattle from under the car somewhere which i suspect may be the discs/pads
in winter i had no braking at all sometimes
brakes are good in the dry, not as good in usual wet weather (to be expected) but virtually non existant in very wet conditions

they did pass the MOT with all of these symptoms but this sticking is new. the front tyres are about to be replaced so i could use some ideas to throw at the fitter so he can have a look while the wheels are off anyway

Sticking slide pins or pistons or both. The wheel will be a lot hotter to touch on the one that is sticking unless more than one is causing a problem

i wish! back calipers are both seized, both back discs are corroded, both back pads are down to the metal.

front discs and pads are heavily grooved too but they are just an advisory so they will have to wait a couple of weeks

immediate cost is £400 plus another £150 when i get the fronts done

What does the immediate cost include Scanny? As that seems excessive for a brake repair?

You could buy a whole replacement front and rear brake setup for around £100 from any breaker. Then adding new discs and pads from Camskill for another £200 all round and fitting it for a further £40-50.
