    Autobox ECU OWC

    Hi.

Looking for a ECU for my PFL 96 galant, just changed the autobox with an OWC, but the ECU is making some harsh shifts.

Can some one help my car getting through the day a bit more smooth ?

don´t know how old the OWC box is, but have some numbers:
    w5a513e6a
    slg3075

    Hi Frank,
what makes you think the w5a513e6a is a OWC auto box?
i have done quite a bit of reasearch on this topic and the w5a513e6a auto box is not a OWC box. 'a' on the end of the model number defines the first gen auto box fitted to early PFL.
the OWC box it is the w5a513e6b. 'b' on the end of the model number defines the second gen auto box wth the OWC, fitted to late pfl and early FL.

have you taken this on trust that you have fitted a OWC box or have you actually read the model number and the OWC printed on the auto box for your self.

If so then this is a completely new variant of auto box that is not listed in ASA or any other data i have read up on.
you really need to certain on this befroe shelling out cash for an ecu only to find that it is the wrong thing to do.

It says OWC on the autobox.

Thought that OWC just ment that it was with only the internal filter.

the old box had the external filter and the new one has no external filter.

Wat a shame you have missed off the most important part of the model number, the last digit.

It is obviously a OWC (One Way Clutch) auto box. The clutch is fitted between 1st and 2nd gear to smooth out the the high turque jerky changes that can occur in the 'a' version auto box.

From the picture the end of the model number across the top could be:-
    E6A (1st gen) external filter
    E6B (2nd gen) external filter & OWC
EZB (3rd gen) internal filter not sure if this has a OWC.

From your picture it looks like you should have an external filter fitted, but where it screws in is really dirty. But that can't be the case as you have your auto box up and running and you don't have atf squerting out of the top of your auto box. So that must be what the non external filter auto box looks like.
    But i can't be sure!
Some conformation would be nice on this, as would like to expand my knowledge of these auto boxes.

Yep that is what a box without the filter looks like

    ????????

    The model number says: W5A513E6A

Where the external filter schould be, it was very dirty wenn i got it, startet slowly with a screwdriver and a vacuum cleaner, but wenn i got to the bottom it was metal in both holes, never drilled out, a bit confused i took the picture and turned to the forum and found a tread about 2 different autoboxes, where it said OWC was with internal filter. well okay then, so started to change the autobox.

    cheers frank

Frank that ECU is a metal case one , AFAIR the box you have needs the later plastic cased one - check Davezj's thread on here as it will confirm the mappings

Wow that is quite interesting as stephen fry would say.
I will add that to my spread sheet of possible auto box combinations and variations.
So i will put this one down as E6A gear box which is early PFL. It has a OWC and no external filter.
It does not make sense that mitsubishi would make this configuration of auto box but they obviously have.

So what other variation are there within the 3 different auto box model numbers?
Does anyone have any other choices on this subject.

    Sorry for thread hijack!

I will check and let you know.

A few weeks ago i would have said you need a MD761988 ecu to go with the W5A513E6A gear box as this is what ASA database says should be the combination used.

But as your auto box has the model number W5A513E6A and it has a OWC then it might be a need for the MR367177 ecu. But this is just a theory.

Now i have a MR367177 ecu that goes with the auto box i took out of My car, i am intending to rebuild my auto box so i will need the ecu and i am not prepared to sell it at the present time. But i will let you borrow it to see if it fixes your auto box shift patterns. If it does then you can go out and find the correct ecu for yourself. Then you can return my ecu to me.
Now this would be a great display of trust from me to you frank, but that is all part of the clubs mentality and i prepared to it for you.
If you want to borrow the MR367177 to test then pm me and give me you address and will send it over to for testing.

I've got E6B right beside me and it's OWC with internal filter (and with the same "blanked hole" as pictured above)...

The ECU for mine is plastic cased MR470718

    Not I'm aware of.
Just welded socket for external filter.
    Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
    Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

I thought so too... Untill we bought this one:

    http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthr...onversion-kit-

Was slightly suprised to see external filter on it?! E6B?? From 1999??... Is it the PFL gearbox from the FL car??
