    My TD04-13T Build

    Hi all,
Just got my car back on the road after installing TD04-13T turbos

Took some pictures of the build that you might be interested to see, see link to picasa

    https://picasaweb.google.com/1045327...LC-wq3siKv_hgE

I modified the standard manifolds by welding a td04 flange to them. With the rewelded manifolds the turbos could be fitted withouth clearence issues with fans, oilfilter, firewall...
Also welded new elbows from the turbos to the standard DP. The elbows are 2,5"

I painted the manifolds, turbos and elbows with ceramic coating and wrapped the elbows and DP:s with insulation
I used the stock heatshield for the front turbo, but the rear heatshield had to be modified and custom-made to fit. There is really limited space for the elbow from the back turbo

Now I have to source bigger injectors and an oilcooler. Tested yesterday with the stock boost solenoid and stock parameters that IDC goes to 95% at 5500 rpm (230 load), have to decrease WGDC on high RPM to drop the boost until I get bigger injectors. Will try smaller WGDC and a higher BDEL value, maybe 200, the goal is to make the overshoot smaller as it could kill the engine

I was considering also cut and weld manifolds, but taken that you deal with temp range 850 to 950 Celsius and cast iron I don't think it's the best idea. Still waiting for delivery of my manifods ready milled on flanges which should land in UK in December.
Happy to hear you didn't have clearance issues.
    Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
    Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

Nice to hear that you got your manifolds milled I also considered the option of getting the manifolds milled, and I suppose that is an easier way if you have the settings for the milling machine.
I know that there might be complications with welding and cast iron, but decided to give it a go and test how it holds up Don't think it will cause problems as the stock manifolds were quite easy to work with.
The outlet in the stock manifold is quite small compared to the td04 inlet, with a td04 flange they are equal size, this might help at higher exhaust flows

What evo injectors are you going to use? are tyhey direct fit or need custom fuel rail etc?

there the wrong impedance to be a plug in.

we run high imp injectors standard,

    evo ones are low.

you would need to modify or adjusting the fuel rail spacers, and the fuel cross over pipe between rails would need to be customised

Looks very good. I'm interested to see how the welds hold out. Did you heat the manifolds up before welding them?

Car is running fine It is my daily drive since the build, no problems so far.
As I have no warm garage to work on the car I can't do much during the winter
Have not fitted bigger injectors yet so still running only about 1 bar of boost. Also need to build custom pipes from the maf to the turbos, the stock ones are really small compared to the td04:s suction pipe, but that have to wait until the spring. Then I am going to fit brembos also

The VR-4 manifolds are suprisingly easy to weld, no problem at all welding them even withouth heating them up first.
I heated them to remove any dirt or oil and then welded them with a MIG with high current
The flanges are mild steel as their thermal expansion is smaller than for stainless

Dont think that there will be any problems with the manifolds

Was looking at this with a friend of mine, and it looks like it's not very efficient where the wastegate is on the dump pipes you made up?

Looks like it has to essentially flow sideways in the very small square-ish area.

Much nicer option is to weld two pipes side by side and flow them together or at least to open the mouth up a bit?

Trent,I think you're barking on a wrong tree
Wastegate valve sits very deep in a exhaust housing and is opening max. 55 degree towards main exhaust, so all flow is directed anyway into a main hole. Have seen several Subaru tuned downpipes with this setup flange. So shouldn't be an issue at all.

Quess it would be better to open it up a bit, but think that the gain would be so small that it is not worth it. As Swinks said the WG valve and turbine outlet sits deep in the exhaus housing so the square area is not that small. When the wastegate valve opens it directs the flow towards the outlet. From the outside it looks a bit inefficient though

    Thumbs down

My car was stolen sometime between 12.1 19:00- 13.1 08:00
    Was parked at my house

Beacuse this car is kind of unique in Finland I think the thieves could not sell it in here. I think it may be transferred to another country, please keep your eyes open if you see the car or some suspicios parts for sale

    This is so friday 13

    Have you contacted the police?

How much fuel was in the car when it was stolen, can you predict when they'll need to refuel it and contact all the local petrol stations?

They'll probably try to put a cloned plate on it, but if you tell the police / petrol stations to look out for a white galant with custom air vents on the bonnet, maybe you'll get lucky.

I do hope you get it back though.
