have seen a few posts over the years regarding tdo4 in tdo3 housing, has been discussed at great length and end result was not a good idea due to having to be machined to thin

I have spoken to a couple of companies, and the previous owner of my car had some turbos "tweaked". The cost of tweaking was £500 per turbo and the result was slightly more top end power and turbos that lasted less than 20k miles.

The fundamental opinions of the experts I have spoken to was that there is nothing sensible to do with the TD03's - all possibilities appear to be expensive and/or promote unreliability of the turbo.

I want some on my car!

Summary - not easy or straightforward, currently expect the bill to be well into 4 figures, possibly knocking on to 5. DIY can save you some money, potentially?

Well, I spoke with Anderz last night and he managed to do his TD04 setup for stupid cheap (loosely around 1000-1200 euros), bearing in mind that only covered turbos and pipework. He still needs to source and fit larger injectors as he's running the stock ones at 95% Duty Cycle

As foxdie said the price is not that high if you DIY, the biggest expense was the turbos. Bought used wrx turbos but discovered that both had damaged compressor wheel, had them rebuilt with new compressor wheels for 600 euros.
Other expences were an extra set of standard manifolds, subaru turbo flanges, DP flanges and some 2,5" pipe. The work involved in doing the conversion was a PITA beacuse I had no carlift
