gearbox noise

just started today. the only way i can describe it is a RRRRRRRRR getting a higher note as the revs increase. a bit like a very quiet trials bike. only noticeable in the 1st 3 gears as it quietens on changing up although the noise is the same. it did seem to disappear when warmed up properly. the first time was a nip into town, the second trip was a motorway journey to meet Gareth. off the motorway and onto back roads it seemed to disappear but it did come back on my way home. it does disappear altogether when the clutch is in and there is no noise in reverse gear

someone tell me its a minor thing as there are other things i need to buy for the car. i could really do without more on the list, especially anything big

input shaft bearing. in the gearbox, $20 part but several hour labour

I'm a mechanic and I did it

im not a mechanic and i did it though it does help having access to a bearing puller/press,
and a couple of willing CVR4 members.

The bearing comes off piece of piss in a press. The worst part is pulling the box out.

Will also pay to replace the seal as well
