It sounds like it is a UK car. Have you got a round plastic thing about the size of a penny with two small concentric metal contacts on it mounted to the dash? Usually in the area of the coin tray or foglight switch.

UK cars came with a rebadged Cobra alarm that was spliced in to the central locking. I have never seen a UK market car with a button on the key itself.

If it's a uk car it would have came with a cobra alarm. If you have no fob, immobiliser stick or card, then I would personally change the alarm for a new one, especially as im guessing your immobiliser has been bypassed by the sounds of it. You can confirm if it defo gad a cobra alarm as there will be a circular immob point on your dash to the right of the wheel
Possibly the only VR4 that was driven by the current owner before being registered..... & it's a UK car

Potentially, yes, but I'd check with a cobra alarm guy or a mitsy tech. I think you need at least the touch thingy for the dash contacts to program? There is a manual on this site somewhere.

I'm guessing it's bypassed as the keys don't have chips. The immob is deactivated by the fob

It might not be an immobiliser equipped alarm? Some of them the touchy thing only over rides the alarm, not the immobiliser.

Ah ok, I thought (but could be wrong) that the uk galants had elite mk4's the same as evos. I also thought that these were dual immobiliser. Wouldn't like to put any money on it as not at all confident, just my usual "blonde" thoughts

mines got the fuse taken out and everything works ok, you put fuse back in and it wont start and alarm goes off, it is very odd that you turn the imobilisor off by pulling a fuse out

Might be as cheap to have an aftermarket alarm fitted with remotw locking?
