    TDI Power Tuning

Anybody know anything about these people?

    http://www.tdi-plc.com/GALANT.html

Looked interesting, wondered if anyone in the Barking area know of them.

    I know them

Had my MR2 na modified there

    Reliable and knowledgable but EXPENSIVE

Worth it if you want peace of mind about ecu mapping etc

Friend had Unichip re-mapped after prev work by another so called reputable place - he believed they knew what they were talking about, knew what they were doing and satisfied with the resuts with his car

It was producing less power IIRC but he believed it was more safely mapped

Thanks for the info. Thought it could be worth getting in touch with them to find out what they can do for the V6?

It is worth it but for a na car like my MR2 and the V6 Galant the options are ltd I believe. You get a lot more options for performance improvements if car is a turbo

For na you can have HKS filter/exhaust and they could fit a Unichip to change performance of engine - might improve ? midrange - you will need to ask them

Plus poss suspension bits - shock absorbers/springs etc

I have been wondering about the chip for a while. It is meant to improve the torque curve on the car, but it is pretty smooth anyway. I have been also looking at shocks/springs kits (Eibach/Blistein) and a new exhaust system. I have a K&N replacement panel filter at the moment and I intend to modify the air intake to get a better flow into it, but I can't see that there is much else to do that isn't going to start costing mucho spondoolies.

TDI advised that it would improve midrange for my MR2 but not being turbo improvement was small perhaps marginal

If changing things do it one bit at a time so as to see improvement if any from each change

I did HKS induction/exhaust, Unichipand Eibach springs and then difficult to tell what had changed, how much and what was responsible

To measure change I would not use drag strip as some would but 'seat of your pants'/how it feels - easier to do if only done one change at a time

Sense of improvement may be there but its possible to rationalise the spending, partic on Unichip, when cost is high therefore I must be feeling an improvement

New exhaust system may give minimal improvments unless straight through and only turbo, I believe, gives noticeable improvement with exhaust replacement

But if you want exhaust note from the V6, as I did, then HKS may be for you but I went to Tube Torque in Macclesfield - will advise you and find out what you want - leaving Cat in system with a s/s system from them should free up a few BHP but better still, I think, will let the V6 make a lovely sound

Eibach springs are good - stiffer ride will make handling better but avoid coilovers at all costs - unles you are trackdays all the time or actually racing, the stiffness and expense are not worth it IMO

I would not modify air intake - not certain of significant benefits and for turbo at least I would now start my mods with a panel filter - avoid expense initially of HKS/Blitz etc, avoiding heat soak and still prob get improvements - for me with turbo, a free flowing exhaust was the important thing

For you then, go for exhaust - I would ask Tube Torque or another specialist
Stick with panel filter, for now - consider heat soak implications if thinking of diff induction kit in future
    Avoid altering air intake
Stiffer springs but do not spoil ride
Only go for Unichip after this and be clear improvement may be minimal

Better still, rather than Unichip, go for much better brakes rather than improving performance by a pigg-back chip - then you can use more of what the car can do already

I would also follow the above with a turbo if starting afresh today
