Galant - rear arches?

Hi everybody.

Could I just ask, is rust on the rear arches of a saloon Galant a common issue?

My Galant is really clean, beautiful colour... the only let down is the dreaded surface rust on the rear archs... the passenger side is minimal, but the drivers side is a bit much... will need to get them addressed, might wait till summer.

yes it is. mostly in countries that salt there roads.

Yes indeed, very common. It's something to do with the fact that the rear quarters are double skinned, and water and dirt gets trapped around the arch area.

Depending on how much you like the car, how long you want to keep it and how much you have to spend, it can be fixed up (depending how far gone of course). Replacement rear quarters are available.

mines bad on the saloon on driverside as well, but doesnt bother me keep a look out for a set of vr4 flared arches to cover it up. thats why i managed to get a set

trying to get the arch kit is a mission, i think you would have more chance borrowing a tenner of elvis.

Hi, thanks for the info on the rear arches... the arch kit idea is a great idea. I wonder if you can get them "aftermarket" or is it a case of trawling the breakers yards?

What I might do is save up and get all the bits ... the arch kit, spoiler etc and then atleast can get them sprayed in one go.

It ?might be worth selling me that arch (confused) and I would be able to make them out of fibre glass or I could ask someone I know to make them out of metal
