    Membership renewal- telephone numbers

I'm not a trader so why do I have to supply so much detail including my home and mobile number. You are assuming everybody has a mobile these days as well since they are all compulsory fields and my date of birth?
Ask a simple question, never receive an answer these days

TBH, Peter, there must be a historic reason for this, although I've never had recourse to use a phone number for CVR4 purposes. Maybe Jane has, in respect of memberships?

I'll report it, as maybe it is too much information.

I assumed it could be useful e.g. if a deal goes wrong then at least either or both parties could perhaps get additional contact info from the club. I, personally, don't disagree with providing such info whether it be referenced in the t&c or not. However, if the club is to record such info, it would be advisable to seek provable agreement of a member's acceptance that the info may be passed to a third party under defined circumstances should the club wish to do this. Such a process may already be in existance.

Phone numbers or other contact details are never passed on .

We only ever use the contact details for any issues arising from disputes between members . An example of this is where a member had been offline for a prolonged period of time and had not sent some parts , we called the missing member and it turned out that he was very ill and had been in a serious accident . This was relayed to the member waiting for the parts and all was sorted

Also please be aware the Club is registered with the Information Commissioners Office and abides by data protection laws.

And does this cover private messages as from the info in the post regarding the ban of VR4drifta it seems private messages can be looked at by the committee. I'm not disputing a deserved ban but the access to private messages

Peter the question is not related to your original request regarding provision of DOB and contact numbers

But to clarify that the reading of PM's is not undertaken lightly and only in very rare circumstances where there is evidence to back up the requirement to do so, this has been part of the standard Terms and Conditions for quite a while .

No but Pete mentioned the data protection act above which will cover more than my original query. As far as I can remember it was not compulsory for me to supply phone numbers before . If that has changed then I will not renew this year.

Peter I think the difference between this year and previous years is that we now use the updated version of the Vb software and are using forms to collect the data which enforce certain aspects of the data collected .

This is being discussed in the commitee area to see if the fields need changing

Rest assured that from the data protection perspective that we are compliant and enforce the rules strictly on the committee

If Peter does not renew then I will not. 6 yrars membership, 6400 posts and a proven history of successful group buys says it all.

    Peter,

I'm not sure why you have decided to post this thread or what sparked it but, for the record all your previous applications for membership have seen you included both your home/mobile and DOB, without question - as a side note your DOB is also registered with the forum software, unfortunately though, the forms do not hook into the forum software to easily grab it, hence asking for it again via the application form.

One of my guiding principles when coming back to do the CVR4 Site design was to minimise any custom code, this aids with future upgrades and allows others to work on the site without needing to perform key hole surgery - Therefore this requirement will stay, just as it has since the automated memberships came into fruition - Granted, back then it wasn't possible to make this (or any field) mandatory, as with all things technology it moves on and features get added.

As a compromise I would be willing to rename the telephone numbers to "telephone 1" and "telephone 2" making only the first compulsory, however it seems you have already made up your mind with regards to your non renewal - Which is, after all, your choice and your prerogative.

I'd also like to thank you for raising this item and I hope that I have suitably answered your concerns.

I'd personally like to thank you for supporting CVR4 by means of your membership fees over the last number of years, I regret that you feel so strongly about something you have completed without question for all these years however, as previously mentioned this is your choice and your prerogative.

As you mention Barry it did not use to be compulsory and I probably didn't give it a second thought but things change as this club has done in recent times
. I had posted in the past my feelings about forcing members to become traders if they wanted to run a GB and I still feel this way. I have always sorted out any problems to the best of my abilities in the past without having the committee involved. The same has also been the case where i have sold parts which have for example been damaged in transit.
It feels like we are signing up for a new credit card these days compared to what it used to be.

That's where this is all coming from.

    Peter,

Thanks for the feedback, may i suggest we don't blur and combine issues, these are two totally seperate items and as such should be raised as such - To touch on the Trader side, we are discussing the trader system at present - Concern surrounding this should, as always be raised by using the "committee feedback" button as a primary method of highlighting concerns to the committee.

Would it be acceptable for anyone not wishing to provide their phone numbers to simply input a series of 1's or 0's instead ?
