Sorry... more helpful advice needed, this time.. the clutch!!

    Hi,

I have a 2002 Galant Classic, its just the 2.0.

I love the car... its gorgeouse, but just feel the clutch is a bit "iffy" the gears are all silky smooth and tight... its just the clutch does not have a very sharp bite to it... some times when you are setting off in first, it realy feels like its slipping... engine shudders... its come to a point when its just not nice driving in slow moving traffic.

I am pritty certain a new clutch would do the trick... is there any adjustment on the old one?

If its definatley a new clutch, what do they sell for?

    Cheers, kindest regards.

That almost sounds like a new clutch bedding in?

    Sidney,

I was having these exact problems, true it can be a clutch, however, in my case it turns out to be the universal joint connecting tailshaft to rear diff. It just so happens while first coming onto clutch, driveline just starts to move as well, strangely.

Might sound a little "out there" but perhaps ask a mechanic to check your uni joints. Much cheaper and easier fix than a clutch.

As some kind of test, you can see if your funny slipping/vibrations happen while the handbrake is on and trying the clutch. Because it should still happen while car is stationary and clutch is slipping due to handbrake resistance. If it doesn't, it might be some other part of your drivetrain as I discovered.

    Regards,
    Trent

Woops! Assume VR-4 a bit too much!

Advice still applies, could be CVs or something.. you could still try my test.. that'l tell you if it's the clutch!
