    Squeaky Belt

I recently put a post on here regarding a squeak, thought it was a pully to start with have now identified it as one of the aux belt. Mits told me when it squeaks next to spray a tad of wd40 on the belt and they would show for sure if it was that belt. Well next time it squeaked i done this and the noice went away, so I thought great I know what it is. Trouble is now I have sprayed the belt with Wd its slipping like mad and really squealling. Car is booked in after xmas for belt change, but my question is will this squeak die down a bit, Its seems slightly quiter since I first sprayed it. Or is there anything I can do to make it quiter, I would gather that the wd40 would eventually dry and wear off. Any ideas or thoughts would be great.

Make sure you spray the pulley's rather than the belt........

Wont be spraying it anymore now. Only did in first place to identifiy which belt or pully it was. Trouble is where it is all lubed up its slipping. They have told me it will stop but its more annoying than anything else.

Where are you? There are a few of us that have got belts on the shelf and could do the job for you before Christmas.

Its a long ass way, but i've got the belts on the shelf. If you are feeling mechanically minded, its easy to tighten the belts up.

    Cheers,

    Ben.

Thay said to put WD40 on the belts? I myself have never heard of anyone using lube on the belts, cause they will slip as you also have noticed. I normally use silicone spray or tighten the belt when it squels. If that dont work, i would say it is time to change them!

You could tighten the belt ever so slightly and this should stop some of the squeaking, it will not fix it but make it slightly better to live with.

    Bye for Now!

Unfortuantly Im not mechanically minded enough to try tightning the belt, just wish i hadnever had sparayed any wd40 on it as itonly gave a minor squeak once a week, now doing it all the time. Having a google session i have seen all kinds of ideas, id say some are rather adventerous, some have said use sopa on the belt, others hairspray, even talken poweder, most common is by getting some belt dressing, but then ive seen that belt dressing can make it worse. All i really wanna do is remove the wd40 off the belt. Someone said pour water on the belt but to be honest im not keen on doing this.

The idea of spraying WD-40 onto the belt is because it immediately tells you which one is squealing. It should also disappear fairly quickly (i.e. it is not a proper lube), but it may just have made the slippage worse in this case.

Anyway, drop Confused a PM. I'm not assuming that he/his dad will be able to help quickly, but you can only ask!

Just been told a little soapy water may help, so have given that a try, stops on idle, but over 2000rpm it starts again need to give it a good run now
