    Thumbs up 7202 ECU flashed how you want it

    Hi all,

    I have for sale one 7202 ECU which I can preflash to requirements (raised boost without a boost controller, removal of boost / fuel cut above 0.9~ bar, increased / decreased fuelling / timing, anti-lag, launch control etc etc).

    It can either be used with ECU controlled boost or aftermarket-controlled boost, I highly recommend a good EBC if you wish to maintain a stable 1.2 bar.

    It will also come with a pair of extra ECU loom wires, each with a set of insulated bullet connectors to allow you to connect switches (clutch switch, dash switch etc etc) easily.

    I strongly recommend whomever buys this has supporting mods, in particular uprated fuelling (fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator).

    Looking for £200 either posted via special delivery or fitted to your car (travel costs are £1 a mile or you can come to me in the B31 area).

    Hi Jason, I'm guessing that's the same ecu that I have on my 2001 galoon?
    Possibly the only VR4 that was driven by the current owner before being registered..... & it's a UK car

    Most likely as John says, unless it's been changed by someone, your ECU should in theory be a 7203.

    There's negligible difference between the 7202 and 7203, they both will run the same code, both have the same amount of flash memory etc.

    If you already have a 7202 / 7203, I'd be happy to offer a part exchange, or if you wanna come up to Birmingham I can reflash yours in much the same way and add the pins

    Thats what I was wondering. I might need to head over your way at some point so could possibly sort this & I will get the MUT back for you. Could you PM me how much to reflash mine in same way? Cheers

    Jason, I have a 7202 and a 7203 ECU and I would be interested in a reprogrammed ECU on exchange basis.

    However, I have not followed up the whole development here, but can you point me in the direction, what functions are possible to program on that ECU? Definitely interested in a raised boost/fuel-cut and improved fuelling. As said, I am a total n00b here.

    I might be able to do that in the future

    Here is what can be done with the stock ROMS;
    • Raised stock boost and boost (fuel) cut
    • Adjust fuelling and timing
    • Remove speed limiter
    • Reduce enrichment on acceleration
    • Change rev-limiter
    • Adjust reduction in timing when knock detected
    • Change injector size (not known if working)

    In addition to the above, Kens 1.3 ROM offers;
    • Launch Control (Limits engine RPM until car is moving more than 10 MPH on Autos or clutch is released on Manuals)
    • Anti-Lag (when in launch control, it ignites fuel before the turbos to spool them up)
    • No lift to shift (For manual cars, it lets you keep your foot flat on the floor when changing gears, adjusts engine RPM for next gear but keeps boost built up)
    • CEL on Knock (Check Engine light comes on if knock / detonation is detected, goes off when knock is gone)
    • Support to add switches to turn the above features on and off
    • Larger maps (greater control over fuelling and ignition timing)

    In addition to the stock ROM, Kens 2.0 ROM (still in development) offers;
    • Switchable maps (8 in total), each map has its own;
      • Fuelling
      • Timing
      • Injector size
      • Speed Limit
      • RPM Limit
      • Boost Control
      • Fuel Cut
      • CEL on Knock
      • Open or Closed Loop mode (whether it just uses fuelling tables (open) or o2 sensor feedback at idle/cruise (closed))
    • Support for switches to select maps
    • Support for reading various values (speed, throttle position, etc etc) to select maps

    And by utilising all of the above, I have implemented the following features;
    • Valet mode (turned on by keyswitch)
      • As little boost as possible
      • 40 MPH speed limit
      • 4000 RPM rev limiter
    • Sport mode (turned on by pushbutton switch)
      • First gear torque limiter
      • Anti-Lag and Launch Control
      • Overrun anti-lag (WIP, just results in lots of amusing pops / bangs from exhaust on overrun)
      • High boost target of around 1.3 bar
      • Permanently runs in open loop mode
    • Comfort mode
      • Stock boost of 0.5 bar
      • Runs in closed loop as much as possible
      • Lower fuel enrichment when moving throttle

    Granted, the 2.0 ROM is still in development and isn't for general public use until Ken says otherwise.

    First gear, it's to help prevent breaking drivetrain bits if you try to put too much power down in 1st gear.

    Jason, how about remote tuning?? means Dave pull my rom out then we send this to you via email, you done few tweaks, send this back to us, then we flash my ecu, do logs via evoscan/wideband and send them to you for check if its safe or require few more tweaks then we do all process again if necessary ???
    Is that possible/got any sense, or I'm just daft??

    I'm happy to help with that, however as my minimum charge time is 1 hour (£30), it's not going to be particular cost effective from the start. I'm happy to do it and keep a log of time I spent on it, so once you go past 1 hour there'll be another charge etc etc.

    There's also the issue of not being there to see how the car is acting / fuelling etc. It's dangerous, but as I've made you aware of that fact and if you want to proceed, I'll help.

    Jase, do you frequent Geekmappers at all? Can you access say a socketed ECU from an Evo with an eprom chip or better?

    I wouldn't say I frequent it but I go there a couple of times a week for bumping up knowledge. I don't have the tools to physically work with CPUs / flash chips from ECUs, only reflash them via the diagnostic ports.

    If you need to work with a physical chip, Kinky Afro and Nutter John would be able to help you with that.

    You don't need any of those things, Jamil. Each of those things will potentially help final power, but you don't actually need them.

    As Nick says, you don't need those parts for the features (a decat is probably required for anti-lag!), but when you're after decent power / torque gains, it'll be the difference between a risky 300~ HP and a safe 310~320 HP. It should cost in the region of £400 for a new FMIC plus pipework, a Walbro 255 LPH pump, FSE fuel pressure regulator, fuel pressure gauge and most importantly the correct fuel rail adapter. It's not a small amount of money I admit, but it helps widen the safety net in case something goes wrong (which, there is always the small risk of when tuning). Personally, I'd say it's worth it if you want some decent power.
