    You know what it's like when you know you are risking it. I'm quite risk averse on car parts and knowing that i'm leaning out or starving the turbos means i would not enjoy things as much as i should.

    The features i'm really after is 1. Improved fuel economy and 2. A 'mad' setting that i can access sometimes but not always. If that were possible then i could always change the parts later and catch up with the remap as it were.

    Getting extra fuel economy is possible, I have no proof of this because I haven't been driving for economy lately (perfecting my tuning skills for power, not economy), but for cruising I've definitely observed a noticeable improvement from my efforts.

    I just filled up again this morning, I used 48 litres of fuel over 180 miles (17 MPG / 16.6 L/100km), at no point in that 180 miles did I attempt to drive economically, most of it was inner city driving and 3rd gear power pulls. I'm sure if I did just did 60 MPH motorway driving, I'd probably get at least 300 miles to a tank (55 litres or so, 25 MPG, 11.4 L/100km).

    As for a "mad" setting, you have 3 options;
    1. Use your right foot in moderation
    2. Use an electronic boost controller you can switch on and off
    3. Wait a little while longer for Kenneth to finish his switchable maps ROM

    I'm using option 3 right now, I have no problems with it at present but there are a couple of minor issues that need ironing out before it's ready for public release. I'm hoping Ken will look at it soon.

    Hmm, a crazy idea, if the tiptronic mode switch on the gear leaver switches to ground, then yes. If not, a relay will need to be employed. Looking at the AT ECU pinout, it says the following;

    Tiptronic selection switch
    Selector lever operation: Sport mode = Battery voltage + 12 V
    Selector lever operation: Other than Tiptronic = 0V
    That doesn't stipulate if it's switched to ground for full auto, or switched to +12V for Tiptronic.

    Hopefully someone has the answer?

    Hey Jason
    I'm interested, will it be ok on an auto with TCL?

    Also, will the openport 2.0 cable be the right one for it?

    Cheers
    Chris

    Hi Chris, I've previous tried to install this ECU in a car with TCL and it's caused the TCL light to flash, I didn't try resetting the TCL ECU (by disconnecting the battery) because we were mapping the car and I didn't want to have rough gear changes.

    I've often wondered if the act of reflashing the engine ECU whilst plugged into a car with TCL caused the TCL ECU to flag up an error, but as I have no solid evidence either way I recently posted up there may be an incompatibility, see question 6 in the Common tuning FAQ.

    I would offer this guarantee; If I sold you this ECU but then it didn't work as expected after resetting your ECUs, so long as you return it in perfect working order (it would be tested) I would issue a full refund, I'd much rather have a happy satisfied customer than someone feeling as if they've been taken for a ride.

    The OpenPort 2.0 cable is ideal for reflashing every VR-4 ECU, however it's the software that's the key. For this 7202 ECU it can be reflashed using the free EcuFlash tool, providing you update the relevant XML definition to read "F" instead of "FA" (guides on this forum elsewhere).

    Hope this helps

    Hey Jason,
    Sounds good mate, I'll take it and try it out in that case.

    The idea is to get a replacement screen for the MMCS, put something up which'll run evoscan (think it's their GPS software where you can design a dash yourself ?) or similar and show live info via the cable.

    Cheers
    Chris

    Cool okay, where abouts in the UK are you, can you make the Rolling Road Day in the Midlands tomorrow? I can fit it and set it up for you.

    As for the MMCS, which version do you have? I have an idea to gut one and replace it with a 5" touchscreen TFT VGA panel from ebay powered by a Carputer, that way you wouldn't need an expensive OpenPort cable just to monitor

    I'm down south and can't make tomorrow, will be up that way next weekend though.

    The MMCS is a pre-facelift one, so would be interested in replacing the panel for sure !
