mileage correction

Can any of you guys do mileage correction? or give me more info on the subject as i had a strange problem the other month,my friend plugged in his cheap ebay diagnostic scanner in to see what 02 sensor was putting the light on and to start with as soon as it was plugged in it made the speedo mileage go up fast. that fast it put an extra 10k on the clock so im sitting on 95k instead of 85k.
so its time to put it right and could do with some advice please
