Rear Brakes

Hi

i know for sure the rear brakes caliper off a PFL fits a FL. but what im not sure about is the disc on the PFL it seems to be held in place by the shaft bolt. can i use this disc on my FL?

Both front/rear discs are held on by just the wheels.

They only fit over the studs & have nothing to do with the hub nut!

I don't think there is any difference between the PFL & FL disc?

hmmmm....i see...so maybe the rust and all has made it difficult then....will go give it another shot...

Handbrake shoes or rust will hold the rear disc on. And yes, they are all identical on 8th gen VR4s. They are also the same on the Evo 4.

have to tried backing off the adjuster to free the disk?
There sould be a peep hole in the disc face covering the shoes etc, shine a light through this and turn the disc round untill you see it, you should be able to adjust it using a flat bladed srewdriver.

This is what I found

The nut for the shafts in the rear are what hold hold down the rear discs. They in a PFL legnum.

No, that nut only holds the shaft, not the disc.
The disc in that picture is only held by the handbrake or rust.

As already mentioned, you need to back off the handbrake shoes by spinning the disc/hub around until you see the edge of a toothed cog through the little hole (think it's near the bottom). Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to move the cog one tooth at a time and it should loosen off the handbrake shoes. If it goes hard, you have tightened it up. IIRC, the correct setting to keep the required clearance is 3-5 teeth turns (if that makes sense!). Easiest thing to do is to count the number of teeth you move it, and then put it back in the same place when reassembling - unless you are changing the handbrake shoes as well, of course!

hmmmmmm.....we gonna go back then and see.....its on PFL moving it to my FL as i swapped my rear caliper and disc for a brembo setup for the front....

FL & PFL discs are all the same & the hub nut does not have anything to do with holding the discs on!!!

there should be a couple of holes in the rear disc.... between the stud holes,

i forget if there 6mm?? these are threaded holes and you wind a bolt in each hole and they pop the disc off the hub,
it may be tight but keep winding they will eventually let go, 40-50mm long bolts suit.

make sure the handbrake is down (off) otherwise the disc wont come off
