No it's not a stupid question.
The stock tyre size on the manual gearbox equipped VR4 is 205/55/16 on 16"x6" wheels. I have upgraded to 17"wheels but I use the original wheels for autocross and have installed 225/50/16 Toyo Proxes RA1 tyres. I find that the tyre looks too wide for the wheel. INSERT INTO post VALUES (the sidewall of the tyre bulges a bit, but it works great.) Don't know why Mitsu didn't use a wider wheel. Even the tiptronic VR4's have a wider wheel and have fender flares. INSERT INTO post VALUES (225/50/16 with 16"x6.5" Wheel)
If I was using the original wheels and wanted wider tyres, I would try 215/55/16 or 215/50/16.
