    Battery to boot, examples.

    Hey guys,

I'm considering moving the battery to the boot again, I have all the cables and joins, will get a sealed battery etc - Just looking for some examples of what others have done, where the battery has been placed and how it was strapped in.

Please could you post some images of your boot conversion? - with possible notes about "wish-i-thought-of-that-before"?

Mines in the spare wheel well using the original plastic tray from the front with the original clamp as well

I also have a large fuse/holder screwed to the wheel well wall facing you, I've used a normal battery with a pipe going from the breather down through the floor

I would take a pickie but the boot is a bit full up at the mo!

Post # 86 Jason puts up a few snippets of info (there are others in the thread, but that looks like the most applicable) and a couple of posts down there is at least one photo of the battery in the boot.

Barry, mine has a replacement false floor of 18mm MDF to give it some strength, im going to rerun the power cable and put the fuse holders up on the side of the boot, rather than on the floor how they are now(have three atm).

The other thing to worry about is the grounding, I have mine done to a lug welded on the chassis rail for maximum effect.

Although @Atik took the photos, the boot listed as "Atik" above is actually my boot

Mine used to be there, but I have a spare.. And if you have to use it the whole car looses power for obvious reasons.

I've found that getting cable through firewall is the real challenge, not the actual location of battery in the boot.
    Mine example:

    Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
    Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

Well the box doesnt actually seal, but its designed as a vessel if there are any leaks.

Basically over here you can run a gel/agm/dry cell battery without a battery box(like in a racecar), but you run the risk of shorting the terminals if they are exposed.

With the box you have the safety of not worrying about it.

You can run a "normal" battery in the box as it provides an enclosure to contain any acid spils(even the so called sealed/no maintenance ones can still spill), however you will need to vent the box to outside the boot, to avoid gas buildup in the box while charging.

I will hunt up some pics for you as requested above.
