its an Apexi super AFC (i think?) and i have no idea what it does or how to use it. the 5 buttons pop out and can be turned from 0 to -30 to +30. the green lights turn red whilst driving. first one at low speeds, 2nd one a bit faster etc etc etc

Yes, it's Apexi S-AFC one of the very 1st generation. Basically for fun and play with fuel trims. There are plenty threads over here how it works and how to tune.
