    Mpg

Just driving up to perth, decided to put some Stp petrol treatment in, for those reading my knock thread will understand....

I managed to get 264 miles out of a full tank of Tesco 99ron.

I've not had that much out of a tank for a long long time.

Just filled up with ultimax, let's see what I get now.

I got 260 out of my last tank, which was Folkestone to Redditch then up to Walsall and back. Also not hanging around! I think it is true that throttle pedal changes are the big killer of mpg, if you can drive at a constant speed the mpg increases dramatically. If you can drive at a constant legal speed then it increases again, but life is too short!

Have any of you noticed when the lean cruise point kicks in. In my car it pushes the AFR to 16 ish depending on actual speed.
But it is such a small window to activate the lean cruise it is not worth trying to maintain.
Basically if you are doing 80 and the boost is 0.0 bar + or - 0.1 bar. The AFR is 16 up from 14.7 but outside this range normal AFR apply.
But if doing 70 and the boost is 0.0bar then 15.6 ish AFR but either side of 0.0 bar and normal AFR figures return.

This is not much use and I don't se why the lean cruise range does not go back into the vacuum region, as that is effectively a minimal load area.

Has anyone else noticed the AFR jumping up for motorway cruising.

With a bit of work I am sure this lean cruise region could be expanded.

    Bye for Now!

This is not directed at anyone in particular but it has been said before.

I would just like to say the global statement that talking MPG on a tank full is pretty meaningless, one persons definition of a tank can widely differ from another's. Even saying down to the red light coming on is not accurate enough, there could be 2 gallons left or 1 gallon left depending how long he light has been on for. And that makes a massive difference.

Personally I would never normally let the gauge go down below 1/4 of a tank left, but that actually indicates 1/2 a tank remains.
So are people referring to gauge levels or actual levels.

I know it is being pedantic but you might as well give actual MPG figures or specify where the gauge needle had dropped to to give some indication of what you consider. Tank of fuel is.

My last tank of juice took the car 307 miles. It took 56.45 litres of juice to refilled to brimming, which is where its always filled to. I personally never, and have never in the 9 years of ownership(ok maybe once or twice ) filled up at 1/4 tank. I always let it go until the red light comes on and stays on. Then run it for upto 20-30 miles more before filling. I've never had any issues with dragging any crap up into the fuel system either.
And could possibly be the Club Member who has spent least of their life at the petrol pump filling their VR4, than any other. On a fill to mileage comparison

    Cheers

I agree, miles per tank can vary a lot due to different ways of defining a tank. But this thread didn't have the feel of needing to be accurate, it was just comments.

And I have never noticed a lean point on motorway cruising, no matter what the variables have been. I do have a wideband gauge in line of sight, so I should have noticed it if it happened.

I know ade messed with the ecu a bit before I bought he car off him and he was looking into lean cruise but do not sus it out before he backed out of the vr4 ownership game. He was working with merlin to get it going.

As far as he told me, he put the original ecu rom back on the car with only a couple of changes, fuel cut raised, 2byte load enabled, and something else I can't remember at the moment.
so lean cruise was not supposed to be enabled.

I will have to look into the more closely, I know there was a "lean cruise" thread kick about on here some time ago.

Got back from the motherland not so long ago, 234 on the clock and about 1/8th left in the tank!

Once this tank is done I'll fill up with Tesco 99 Ron and do some knock runs, will update that thread and link to this one from that later in in the week.

At least it ticks off another box in the quest to remove knock, whatever the results may be.

One thing for sure tho, I'm getting at least 50 miles more per tank since putting in those additives.

Forget if I mentioned it but I put in a bottle of redex on the way back down the road, so that's the last two full tanks that have see the additives added.
