Hey Everyone, I'm a newbie that needs help

    Hi everyone

I joined up in the hope that someone can help me/advise me with my Galant. I've got a 2.5 V6 Sport. I took her to a garage the other week and have been told that she has a FTO engine but I dont know enough to check. Can anyone tell me how to know what she deffo has in her because I need to get things fixed and dont want to mess anything up because the person who had her before has bodged things.

I also don't know if because the engine is different it is damaging her etc

None of the garages where I live want to touch her. The only guy that will wants to charge me a bomb for simple things. I need to get a new thermostat because it has gone sticky. I have checked it out and from what I understand it is better to get a low temp thermostat. Googleing around I cant find one that tells me it will deffinatley fit.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section

you could put up a picture of the engine bay, that would help with identification, the guys here will be able to point you in the right direction after that,it may even be the case that someone knows the car.depending where you live someone may even have a good garage they know of

Hope the pic helps. I'm a bit of plonker really because I bought the car on pure impulse and don't know anything about cars so am feeling a little lost as to what to do with her as one garage will tell me there is nothing wrong (I think thats because they dont want to touch her) and another will tell me there are lots of things wrong.

Thank you for letting me know. I can take it to Mitsubishi who are about 25 miles down the road from me but don't really want to pay them full whack. I need new rocker cover gaskets and a low temp thermostat, any idea where to get them from? Have had a look on ebay and all the gaskets look different shapes and without knowing the engine I'm not sure what the part number is so I can get the right one. I was told by a mate that the cosworth low temp thermostats are the best but unsure which one to get as they don't say which one will fit on there website. Or if there is a better option then I would appreciate your advice.

    Thanks for the help

Hey adaxo, Thank you so much for telling me. The engine has always bugged me because the original engine got blown up (or something similar) and I was never sure if they put the correct engine back.

Dude you are awesome. What do you think about the low temp thermostat. Would you stick to the original or go for the low temp

Just thought, as I am buying the gaskets I might as well buy some other things at the same time. I was looking at the engine flush and wondering how hard it was to do. I wouldn't be doing it myself I would get my partner to do it as he is the mechanical one. Do you need a good knowledge of cars to do this or not?

The simple answer is, join this club and you will get access to ALL manuals and 'how to guides' which explain how to take care of this cars, 20£ spend on full membership save you 1000s if you let some inexperience 'garages' finding a faults which not exist.

TBH what you have just told me is worth more than £20.00 to me. It may sound silly but when your getting told lots of different things from different people finding some that knows is brilliant. I thought I could only join if I had a VR4. If this isn't the case then I'll sign up straight away. You have helped so much is this short time
