It doesn't sound like a bad list, and should be pretty thoroughly cleaned after that!

One thing I thought after just finding this thread - the top radiator hose (as far as I know) is the return from the engine, not the feed to it. Therefore the pressure in the top hose can't be affected by a sticky thermostat, just the flow in the hose. Secondly, both the top and bottom hoses in to the radiator have no restriction at the radiator end, so the pressure in the hoses absolutely must be the same as the pressure in the radiator, which is controlled by the radiator cap. So for both reasons I am worried about the original guys theories! One thing I would say is that if the pipe feels like it is at too high a pressure it could be old and hard and brittle. If your pipes are brittle then it could well be you have a crack in one which is the reason you are losing coolant. Have a good look at the pipes whilst you are doing your flush.

You should be able to get a new rad cap from Halfrauds for a fiver - I did!

One thing in your list - I suggest a good break between steps 8 and 9 (or between 7 and 8) - I wouldn't want to run cold water through a hot engine.

I'll pop into halfords and get a new cap. The old one appears fine but It cant do any harm to put a new one on. I will deffo check for leaks when I do the flush. Didn't find any time yesterday ended up getting called into work. After reading through some old articles and speaking to the mechanic my lash adjusters aren't right so was going to try the little trick I read of bleeding the air out to see if that helps in the short term before it goes to the garage on Thursday.

I would suggest that bleeding lash adjuster could be done on fresh oil, after engine flush, with longer lasting result.

Yea, that is the one that I read. I was going to do it this afternoon when I flush the rad. When the car goes into the garage on Thursday he is going to take a proper look at everything. I cant change the oil yet. Waiting till I get paid on Friday so I can but the 0-30 stuff from amsoil with the engine flush. I am just hoping that bleeding it will fix the problem for a day or 2 until I can flush everything

By doing bleeding procedure you increase dramatically oil/water temps so with not properly working cooling system AND unknown quality/condition of old oil in the engine IMO you risking damage of engine. I would bleed lash adjusters at the end, after flushing heater system and old oil.

BTW ticking lash adjusters not make any harm, its just that annoying noise what they do.

Fair enough, Ill leave it be for the time being then. Ive been driving the car very carefully because of the tick tick tick wasn't to sure what it was doing but just assumed it wasn't good. At least if its not doing any damage then I don't have to worry.

I have no idea how to bleed the lash adjusters and that sounds a bit more technical than flushing the rad and engine. I'll leave that bit to the mechanic.

All i can hear in my head when I'm driving is that poxy advert that goes 'spread, spread, spread, spread, spreading' but instead of spread 'tick tick tick tick ticking' lol
