My new steed has drilled Evo IX discs on the front and Evo VIII standard discs on the rear, with DS2500's all round. The squealing is annoying me after a day of ownership! I'm guessing its worse due to the DS2500s?

Edit - A bit of googling shows that the DS2500's are a low noise pad. Shoud I try some anti squeal shims first?

DS2500 are hard pads so I am not sure how they are low noise.
Try braking harder. Or try the bedding in procedure again.

I have now changed to OE Brembo pads, from the no name Camskill ones. And guess what... no squeal, just ocassionally a a very quiet one a second before you come to full stop.

I am with Carsten...OE pads and discs and shims, plus a suitable grease (I used Mintex CeraTec) between pistons and shim AND shim and pad.
the one and only...Pearl White Legnum 25 ST-R...registered in Germany - now featuring a 6A13TT engine (unless you know otherwise)

My brakes have just started to squeal, time for a re-grease i think.
i have used copper grease up to this point and had good results, but as a litium grease has be recomened rather than copper grease, i will give it a go and see if it lasts longer.
just to add a little info, i have never greased the slide pins on my pads.

i should really as a test, just remove the slide pins and not touch the pads, grease the pins and refit them to see if it makes any difference to the squeal for me, then at least i will know if greasing those on there own will make difference at all.
i am not sure it will if it is the only part i grease, but it will not hurt to try.

i know no one has suggested only greasing the slide pins will fix the squeal but it would be interesting to see what happens.

A few websites that sell them claim they are low noise. If I brake harder there is less squealing, but it's still there. AARRGGGHHH

Are you sure, you have the shims installed?

Exactly. Ive used MINTEX ANTI BRAKE SQUEAL and applyed to all contact patches of pads, locking pins, anti squel shims
and so far almost a week driving without squeal
Thanks to Gly for his advice.

Not a clue, will have to ask Roadrunner, as I bought the car from him. The brakes are getting worse the more I use them. Its somewhat embarassing now!

How much of the mintex stuff did you use? I have ordered some, will get the mechanic to see if there are any anti squeal shims installed when he takes a look at the car in a few days time. Brakes are really really pissing me off at the moment. I find myself lifting off the gas a lot earlier and then slowly dropping gears so I don't have to use the brakes.

Not a lot, just made sure that there is a thin layer on each part being in contact with others: pins, shims, pistones, back of the pad and side edges.

So underneath and on top of the shims? I'll find out if the pads have the anti squeal shims once the ceratec is delivered. Ordered 4 tubes which might have been a bit too much it seems..

yes, i have it between the pad and shim, and on the back of the shim where they contact the brake pistons,

and a very little bit of lithium grease on the pins

Back of the pad, shim outer side, pads side edges, pins, each side of the anti rattle shim making contact with top of the pad between the pins,
I used the same mintex stuff on each of those parts, seemed to be very sticky and quite thick compound.

Some of you would avoid hassle if read properly

    Let me say again:
    1. Anti sqeek shim pads (rubber like) self adhesive, i.e.:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINTEX-CER...item27ca595ad5
That is applied to brake shims.
    2. Alignment of pad holes for pin sliders. Very often difference approx of 1-2mm make awful noise, especially whilst cornering.
    Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
    Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

Sorry for being lazy. I have already ordered the ceratec, will try that when it arrives. If that doesn't work on its own then I will order some of the pads from Camskill

I got a chance to take a better look at the front pads last week when the weather was half decent. My tubes of Ceratec had arrived in time from Camskill which was handy. I cleaned up the back of the pads and the shims before applying the ceratec.

    CC7F503E-FB99-4CDF-8AE9-2AD32F47DD1A-10314-000003FC02A67E25.jpg

Also noticed that my calipers don't seem to have the slide rails which probably doesnt help the squeaking issue. After a short drive the squeaking seemed to have gone but it came back. once the brakes were hot. Since then the brakes squeak a lot less but they still have the tendency to pipe up again after a while. Next step is the Mintex shims!
