having had a evo for a number of years i can tell you there is no disapointment in having a auto the best part is sitting a lights next to a evo and gunning it off the line and leaving the evo sitting there as they think its just a estate ohmy did the guy in the evo 10 soon think fuuuuuuuuuuunk when he was strugling to keep up

That's all good and well but I still want a manual!

That Evo in Dunfermline must be knackered, seems too cheap.

Try the auto. Suits the car well, and has been the cause of many 'manual only' mind sets to be changed.

I can't see myself liking it, I'm not ready to turn into a middle aged man yet

That 5 has opened my eyes to how cheap Evos have become. Maybe it's time to try some new quotes.

    Kind of my point, really.

If you desire an Evo, then the VR-4 will never be the thing you want it to be, and you may even end up disliking it altogether. The VR-4 is undeniably quick, but it isn't an Evo. But an Evo can't carry a wardrobe and make you smile at the same time! Everyone's goals/desires/requirements are different.

You would of course still be more than welcome around here though!

I've driven an Auto before (not a legnum) and it did nothing for me. I can't see them being significantly superior with being of a similar age and technology.

I'll be speaking to Ebony & Ivory soon anyway, will drive one of their Autos mainly to keep you guys happy but what I really want is a manual. I don't see why that's so hard to accept?

As for Evos, I'm still very wary of the fact UK ones rot madly, imports seem to be at a premium, and they're going to have been given a harder life than a Legnum. Then there's the fact they're a car thief's wet dream. It would have to be a 5/6, and with having bought a house I'm a little worried about the insurance costs. Fuel/Servicing is less of a concern due to the limited mileage I do and the fact I do it myself unless I don't have the time or it's.

I've had a auto Legnum and currently have a manual Legnum.

I am a fan of auto's as I like the lazy driving experience and the tiptronic self learning auto is very good. The only thing I didn't like about it was the odd habit of kicking down 2 gears only find its got no useful rev range left, so it changes again. This is a pain as it slows your progress when trying to go quickly.

I now have a manual which I'm very happy with.

If you want a manual, that's fine, hold out for one but they are rare.

My first VR4 - '97 Legnum Dark Green & mean ...it was love at first sight - now sold

That's a useful post, cheers. What are the manual boxes like, I take it they're meant to be nice and slick, no real slop or play?

The manual box can be a bit notchy when cold as reported by a couple of our NZ friends. I've not really noticed this on mine. Gear selection should be nice and precise and you don't want any crunching of synchro's when doing quick changes.

There is lots of info on here regarding changes to gearing which makes for some good interesting reading.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

They get notchy when the wrong oil is used in them. They must have a GL-4 oil in them. GL-5 is no good

the whole argument between manual and auto will go on for ever ,

when i was looking for a vr4 all them years ago i had to have a manual , i tried an auto as there where no manuals at the time due to the high recommendations from the club , i liked it and brought it , 18 months later i brought a manual vr4 and sold the auto as it came up at a very good price ,i loved the feel of the manual compared to the auto , i then crashed it 3 months into ownership ( not a bad thing as we found out it was rotten dangerously ) i then brought another auto vr4 and had no love for it so that got sold 4 months later .

end of the day i prefer a manual vr4 but if an auto comes up at the right price and time then i may not resist ,

but also saying that if an correct evo comes up at the right time and right price i will pick that over a vr4 as i dont need a boot really .

if you want a manual buy a manual but test drive both as a comparison .
