My other option is importing a fresh one, however I've spoken to 2 importers and there's nothing but ropey manuals in the auctions ATM, and it's over budget.
I can't spend another year in my Megane I had as a back up car since last winter.
tig's VR-4 looked nice, and, as I said on the FS thread, had the nice mods on it too. I assume that you weren't the buyer then.
Manual's do come up fairly regularly, but will almost always involve some sort of compromise on your preference of colour, interior, options, etc., due to them simply being so much less common. To give you an idea, the supposed ratios of autos to manuals in the UK is something like 9 to 1!
If I were in your position now, I would be preparing to keep looking for anything up to six months to get the one I wanted (or something close to it at least). Manual conversion is an option, but I think I would rather start with one that came out of the factory as a manual. And unless you're prepared to do the work yourself, a conversion is probably in the region of £1,000 to £1,500, and the premium for a manual over an auto is not that high, IMO.
But as said before, it's all about what YOU want! Different strokes, and all that! I'm sure you'll get there in the end.

Why not become a full member of CVR4 and enjoy the additional benefits membership brings?! Information here.
What's rough about it? It has the ubiquitous missing towing-eye cover, but mostly looks tidy (lack of pics doesn't help). Fairly low mileage at 67,000, plus it is clearly not stock suspension (which hasn't been mentioned in the ad). I'd certainly have a look at it!! Although, as ever, Cornwall is a PITA just to have a look...
Cornwall is a nightmare, was going to look at an RX7 there but the cost of flights/train etc was ridiculous.
The bumper looks scraped up, I don't like the grill, mirrors and wheels. It probably needs the belts doing and all in all it's a crap advert. I'm not even entertaining that one, the price suggests it'll be a money pit and frankly I'm not travelling to Cornwall for a car I can't do much digging for info about, as I guess it's not been on here?
Haha, they're all money pits!
Don't think it's been on here, it's not one I recognise at least.
Keep the faith!!
You can go for auto and if u dont like it u can do manual conversion like Adam (adaxo) did, its always an option.
I agree it's a crap advert, but I wouldn't say it was rough... sure the front bumpers got a few minor scrapes but other than that it looks tidy enough. The mirrors and front section are easily changed. If I were as keen on a manual as you say you are, I'd at least make contact with the guy to find out more, or make him an offer that you are prepared to take some risk on. As an owner of a manual myself I totally understand why you want one over the auto. Like you, I just don't like autos period, so a manual was the only option for me. It makes the car much more 'EVO' in my opinion. Buying any used car is a bit of a lottery though - even so called 'cherished' cars can have skeletons.
This is new on eBay me thinks. Not a manual but looks nice as do his other cars

That looks nice and great colour
It's been on a while, and again it's Auto.
There's no point me doing a conversion, I'll get all the bits together and they'll sit in the garage for months on end, I always end up not fitting parts. Plus I tend not to pay people to do something I'm capable of doing myself.
I can go drive one at Ebony & Ivory but it won't change the fact I really want a manual.
I've had to email the guy in Cornwall as he's missed a digit off his number to get more pictures. Thing is I could still get there after a 6 hour drive and it run like a bag of spanners, which pictures don't show. Plus I'd have to sort the terrible wheels etc out straight away as its just plain not my style!
Do we have any members in Cornwall who could check it out, or might know the owner?
Auto's change faster than manual's
I'm sure I can live with a few hundredths of a second.
if it the distance thats a issue then ask on here if someone close to it could go veiw it for you i know imapetrolhead is in cornwall or if you time it rite and me and missus are off down there to vist parents then you could get a lift lol
Distance is the issue but purely because I don't want to make such a big journey and it be a dog.
I asked above if anybody was near it.
