If anyone is looking to buy a car from Japan, here's one to consider. No need to stress about auction condition or engine problems that aren't listed on auction sheets. No need to pay inflated Japanese dealer prices either.
This car was bought by me and was my daily transport last year, now getting less use as we also have a Nissan Cube.
Has been well maintained . I'm currently living and working in Japan, have had the car since April 2011.

    Bad bits
minor really...missing rear headrests ( from auction)
small dent on rear passenger door due to car park inattentive bloke holding a baby( other bloke, not me)
tiny bumper scratch, missing tow hook cover, small crack on bottom lip of front bar
small crease on downpipes after they suddenly got kissed by bloomin' jealous road dip- has not affected performance one iota

I think the de-badged look makes the back of the car look "less fussy" and a bit more sleek (but that's just my personal opinion). The removal of the fog-lights is to facilitate extra cooling to the front of the car.

Thanks Alex (Chris g) and Alex( Gingerfish). No moonroof, ALex. I guess it's one less thing to go wrong/leak and saves weight, a good thing perhaps?
The badges weren't removed by me, the car was bought without them from the auction. Who knows why they took out the rear headrests as well.
One of the foglights was full of water ( driver's side). Yes, the absence of the passenger's side foglight assists the ATF cooler. I still have original intercooler.

    Bump- price reduction, guys.
3,223 Pounds Sterling (410,000 JPY/ 4997 AUD) using the Ozforex calculator. FOB costs and shipping would need to be arranged by the the buyer but if anyone's keen on a low mileage, rare black, already tuned VR-4 .....( it was tuned by Steve ( Transformance Engineering) on OzVR-4).
Have the original engine cover (in very good condition) as well.

Hi Tony, thanks for the interest, mate.
To be honest , I'm not up to date on all the costs involved to N.Z, but Roll-on-Roll-off shipping would roughly be $1630 USD, so about $2K NZD. Please check the N.Z import rules though... can pre-2004 vehicles still be imported?

Your best bet would be to email trusted guys who do this for a living, as they have the right contacts here in Jp.
I imported my first Legnum VR-4 into Oz with the help of Kristian Appelt, from Iron Chef Imports- a car enthusiast himself.
Also, there's Ben from J-Spec imports. If they can't help you then I'm sure they'll be nice enough to give you the number of a Kiwi company that can.

Alternatively, there is a Canadian guy based in Nagoya that has access to all the auctions. The website mentions that he sends cars to NZ.
He would be able to organize everything for you. I know him because I bought my car via auction from his company (Sastrad).

    Here ya go....

    J- Spec imports http://www.j-spec.com.au/info/Contact

    Sastrad http://www.sastrad.com/

    Hope this helped somewhat,
    Anthony

    haha..Chris, don't be overly dramatic...
you don't need both kidneys to experience the driving pleasure of our VR-4s!

Sometimes, things which are more expensive to get end up being not as expensive for a little while after.. if they've already been tuned( safely),and in this case, timing belt and water pump etc, then the hard work ( money spent) has been done for you, which saves you a bit .....
...until the need for more G-forces and bigger turbos arrives

Sometimes it is just a matter of timing.

If I was looking for a Legnum to replace mine, this would be near to, or at, the top of my list.

    True, that is.
for having it in mind, Nev!

Cheers Jeyaseelan...It's a hard colour to keep clean but it comes up OK after a wash. Stays like that for 10 mins though, haha.
Thinking about getting the VR-4 badges put back on, freshen up the suspension if I end up keeping it....wouldn't mind a manual conversion

My understanding is that you need to add 5 to 6 hundred for shipping, add that to the car price, then add 10 percent duty and 20 percent vat.
So assuming that the seller can deregister and deliver to the docks, it would be well over 4k landed here, maybe 4.5.
Having said that, I would happily pay that for a clean rust free cared for example, if I didn't already have one.
