Galant 2.5 V6 AFM fitting on the Legnum VR4

Well, have had a good day today, managed to get the throttle body off and have replaced the step motor & throttle position sensor, started the car up and she was running lumpy but differently to before. Did the old diagnostic test and it came up with the AFM fault, disconnected the AFM and engine ran fine but as others have said on here, very smokey when revved.

Got my 2000 V6 Galant sat on the drive (which I'm stripping for parts anyway) and had a look at the AFM on that, all seemed the same except 1 digit different in the code and thought, what the hell, gonna give it a go. Took a matter of about 10 mins the remove and fit to the Legnum and low and behold, she's now running sweet as. Whilst I was on, I removed the crappy HKS mushroom filter and fitted the airbox off the Galant as well, looks a lot tidier under the bonnet now

Has anyone else ever tried this before and what are the potential downfalls if any?

The snorkel is actually the same size, the guy who fitted the mushroom filter had left it on to channel air to it and it fitted directly into the airbox. I realise the MAF/AFM is different and this is only a temporary fix as I will either be fitting a proper 1, when I can find a decent price or seeing if I can get mine overhauled.

The only thought I'd had was my Legnum is PFL and the Galant is FL, maybe they made some minor changes to the air intake??????

The V6 snorkel has a smaller oval entry into the filter box. Maybe your V6 had a VR4 snorkel and box or the funnel on the VR4 was from a V6?
